Balance of Terror..

...we could have a good reason to wrap it into one in just the manner that "BermaTrek" later interprets as the one correct manner - that warp preceded "The Cake" by centuries.

"The Cake"?

Should we assume you mean "The Cage"? :p

WTF? Seems I'm still stuck in celebrating mode... We had the local Independence Day the past weekend. Happily, I'm mostly immune to hangovers. And warp was definitely discovered after the cake.

Did anybody know that the remastered version of Balance of Terror is available for viewing online.

I downloaded it onto my X360 months ago...we watch every once and a while...I am still not "sold" on the CGI FX. They are good, but are they THAT much better than the original FX? For some reason I like the original FX better. Some of the Romulan Warship CGI shots just dont..well.. have depth to me..and the movements of both ships seems clumsy at time...

"Balance of Terror" had some of the more clean VFX of the series, though it was limited in aspect ratio. (Apparently the VFX from the original series were cut to TV ratio, and not filmed like the live-action sequences). It isn't one of the episodes that I would cite as 'needing' VFX work.

That said, there ARE several episodes where the shots of the Gray Lady were faded, dirty, or just plain bad. THOSE are the shots that made the CGI team say "Okay, time to clean this up."
