Bad news for 2012

If you want to hear the actual quote from the media conference, it's the last but one audio on this page. He starts on Doctor Who at about 49 minutes, in response to a question. He does seem to be joking, I think. But it's clear the issue for him is about Moffat's other project.

Thanks for that link, RevdKathy. As others have said, it's obvious that it's meant to be a serious explanation. In a light-hearted manner, yes, but not a joke. So either he doesn't know what he's talking about, he's consciously lying, or that is in fact the truth. I know which I think is the most likely.

I don't buy the "time to prep" argument. I didn't buy it three years ago, I don't buy it now. American shows swap showrunners the way people change their socks, and they carry on just fine.

Well first most American shows are crap and you can't get bellow bottom Second there a lot of great shows that were ruined by a change in show runner. "Star Trek" is the classic example but there is also "The Simpsons", "Heroes" and "Stargate".

First of all, can you get off the American bashing and second of all with due respect "The Simpsons" it has had multiple show runners in 20 + years which isn't surprising given its longevity.

Wait, isn't the complaint on Star Trek and Stargate that what killed them was not cleaning house (Writers, Showrunners, etc.) Enterprise Showrunner change was a masterful stroke, but, it was too late, Berman Braga had already shrunk the viewership too much. S4 had mostly Good episodes (The Nazi reset button and the Finale were the only ones I don't like, and I don't like Scott Bakula as an actor, so that's high praise coming from me for S4 ENT), which you can't say for many seasons of ENT or VOY. If ENT had started out with Manny Coto's storytelling from the Get-go, ENT would've been an awesome series, IMHO, of course

Back on topic, now that I remember what thread we're in, it is what it is, and they have their reasons, and really owe us nothing but a product we choose to engage in or not. It'll either drive people away or it won't. No need to go "Internet Fanboi" on it, so, I just accept the message for the information it contains (IE: 2012/2013 Schedule periods), rather than worry about what the intentions of the spin were.

I find the sheer number of people who are not involved in television production, and who are not experts in the differences between British and American production practices, armchair quarterbacking and pontificating on everything that's wrong with the system, and relying upon rumors to do so, fairly well amusing.

I'm not bashing America, it's the ugly truth.

Yes but everybody agrees the quality is not what it use to be when Matt Groening was more hands on.

"Futurama" is just a better show even though it's not as popular as "the Simpsons"

A lot of people I've met are pretty ugly but I don't say it to their faces, try some tact.

American Television doesn't care what you or I think. In fact most people do acknowledge the fact that American TV is indeed crap.

To be fair most of British TV is crap, too. The problem is that we each only get a small proportion of each other's TV aka the good stuff, and are left thinking the grass is greener.

Thanks for saying what I was tempted to say but my point still is, you don't have dump on another countries entertainment because you can. When you do that, you're just being rude and that's what I have a problem with. Some people thinking their particular country is better than another. So don't take a dump on my front porch and I won't do the same.

Looking at his location it appears Yminale is American, so it's not so much take a dump on someone elses porch as his own.

Yeah, I'm sure my 2:1 in Film and Media, as well as years working in video production obviosly mean I don't know shit about the media industry.

Wait, isn't the complaint on Star Trek

When I'm talking about Star Trek, I'm talking about the third season of the original series under Fred Freiberger.

and Stargate that what killed them
Stargate went downhill when Glassner left but I won't argue with you if you think SG-1 lasted too long.
Eh...I enjoyed Stargate SG-1 S8-10. I always viewed SG-1 as decent worthwhile TV, almost never excellent, but also almost never awful.

Yep, you know nowt.
Personally, I do know nowt beyond the stuff I've read and seen that has been released officially or on twitter. But I do think it's interesting, and there's obviously something happening that we're not getting the full story on, just like with Eccleston and the 10 different versions of events that seem to have happened.

Don't worry, I'm going to keep that post handy for the next time Sci goes on about something he isn't an expert in

I think there's a big difference between having an opinion on something in which one is not an expert and being convinced that people in an industry must be lying/incompetent/hiding something/whatever on the basis of little to no evidence, purely on the basis of Internet rumors.
