Bad movie..great cast!

I'd have to agree with the mention of Meteor, though whoever thought casting Brian Keith as a Russian was a good idea must have been smoking something REALLY impressive...

Actually, Brian Keith spoke fluent Russian.

I always had a crush on him.

And for strange casting, somehow Scottish Sean Connery totally pulls off playing Berber El-Raisuli the Magnificent in "Wind and the Lion," accent and all. But then he's Sean Connery and can make a Scots accent sound perfectly acceptable on just about anyone.

I didn't know that, but speaking it and having an accent that doesn't sound cartoonish is another issue I guess lol...

It's not technically a genre film, but the all time winner in great cast/bad movie has got to be "Caligula"

Helen Mirren
John Gielgud
Malcolm McDowell
Peter O'Toole

All in what is essentially a hard core porn film!

I thought of that one too lol... I can understand O'Toole and McDowell, they seem to be more than a bit twisted, but I always figured Guccione had incriminating pictures of Gielgud.

And calling it hard-core porn doesn't do it justice lol... it's a catalog of perversion. Whatever you're into, it's there somewhere!

But you know what? Of all the movies that take place in that period, I bet this movie was the most 'authentic', in terms of how it probably really was.

 you are probably not wrong.

Mars Attacks come to mind, though it's not really a bad movie, it just had way too many stars for the silly b-movie parody that it was.

...just like the parts of Monty Python and the Holy Grail not involving coconuts are probably the most realistic depiction of the middle ages ever.

"How can you tell he's a king?"
"He hasn't got shit all over him."

I have read many many many many many many many, did I say many, books about the Greeks and then the Romans. Trust me, they were more like Caligula than, oh, Gladiator. I would like to know what movies YOU think best depict that era of human history.

Not terrible movies (one was terribly inaccurate), but A Bridge Too Far and The Battle of the Bulge were kinda underwhelming considering their casts.

Troy wasn't all that great, either.

Oh, I was agreeing about Caligula... I was just citing Holy Grail as another example lol. And I have 2.5 history degrees so I've read quite a bit about it too. :D

Speaking of which, I'd add Species to the list. Kingsley, Michael Madsen, Helgenberger (Mmm...Helgenberger), Forrest Whittaker. It wasn't the worst movie, but it led to the crime against humanity that was Species 2.

Species II also added James Cromwell & Richard Belzer to the Species franchise. (And really, any movie that casts Richard Belzer as the President of the United States has got to be sci-fi.)

Lost in Space

Two good actors (Rogers and Graham) and two great actors (Hurt and Oldman) couldn't save this piece of garbage.

When was William Hurt good in anything? He was barely passable in Lost in Space & Vantage Point. He was the worst thing about the Sci-Fi Channel's Dune miniseries. Please recommend some movies that will help rehabilitate William Hurt's reputation with me.

While I enjoy Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, I would be hard pressed to officially classify it as a "good" movie. However, Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy, & Steven Mackintosh do a great job of carrying the film.

The Big Chill, Children of a Lesser God, Broadcast News, A History of Violence, The Good Shepard, as well as several stage performances (mostly Shakespearean productions).

I personally enjoyed the movie, but a lot of people seem to dislike Pearl Harbor and despite some misgivings of Ben Affleck, the movie otherwise had a good cast, Kate Beckensale is awesome, some other names I don't really recall atm, but I've always thought they were decent (or well some people do at least).
