Hope you all don't mind a little ranting and raving from me today, I'm an emotional wreck. So a month ago I got a speeding ticket, clocked me at 71 MPH and the speed limit was 55 MPH. In my defense, I was in a rental car, more powerful than my own, I was going down hill down the mountain, it was a straight away, and there was no traffic, and I didn't know it was 55. The cop gave me a ticket and I had to go to court on October 18th. So, I went to court on October 18th and the judge found me guilty (I did explain the circumstances) so I paid the fine that day and that was that, or so I thought.
I got a letter in the mail yesterday (that I just opened today) that says my License will be suspended on October 31st-November 30th! I'm like WTF. I guess there is a General Statute (20-16.1) in North Carolina that if you are traveling in excess of 15 MPH over the speed limit over 55 MPH there is a mandatory 30 day suspension of your license! I'm from Texas, and Texas laws were not this strict! So I'm freaking out now. Without a car how am I supposed to survive for a month? I'm a single guy, on my own in this town. There is a number you can call on the letter for more information, first thing in the morning I'm going to call and try to plead with them, but written clearly on the letter it says: "A Hearing is not authorized by statute". DANG. Why so strict, I'm not a criminal, I don't usually get speeding tickets, this isn't like a DUI or anything, geeeeez.
The other bad part about this, and the part that really gets to me (cause I can take things like this thrown at me) is the lack of family support up here. I have one family member, a sister, who lives up here in the same town, she's younger than me, currently 16 (technically half-sister, she lives with her mom), but she has a license and her own car, and I've just found out I can expect no support or help from her AT ALL.
I called her, explained the problem and asked if she could help take me to places I need to go for November. Her answer? No. She said she has to drive herself to places and can't make the time for me. She told me to ride the local bus. WTF! Thanks a lot. So selfish. At least I know where I stand now with her, she doesn't care and is unwilling to help when I need it. Yet, I have certainly helped her in the past, such as taking her and her friends wherever they wanted to go when she couldn't drive, and then letting her drive my car whenever she wanted when she had her permit so she could practice, I've helped her so much in the past, and she can't turn around and do the same. It really makes me angry, and disappointed. So I can expect NO help from the only family member that lives up here with me, great.
Bad Day.
