Spoilers Bad Batch Season 2 - This Fall

Apparently it isn't the first time that's happened.

I guessing it's to get the attention of parents of kids who might like it.

It'll likely be Ian McDiarmid. I can't imagine them hiring anybody else to do the Emperor's voice in this series unless McDiarmid would be ill or price himself out of their range, and the latter won't happen.

Sam Witwer could be an option. Though he has only done Palpatine for video games.

And Rebels, back in the season 2 premiere. Though that was in the original broadcast, and they have since re-recorded that scene with Ian McDiarmid.
Ok. I thought he had done Palpatine for one of the shows, CW or Rebels, but IMDB was not help. Thank you!

Sam Witwer would be the first person to tell you that if you can get Ian McDiarmid for Palpatine, you get him. Sam does a good impression, but if you can get perfect, do it.

Ian McDiarmid has done VO work for Palpatine? I thought he only played him in live action and they always had someone else, like Sam Witwer, Ian Ambercrombie, or Tim Curry, voice him in animation.

So the blu-ray still has Witwer?
I think so, yes.

McDiarmid was brought in to voice Palpatine in the final season of Rebels, at which time they had him re-record the Palpatine dialogue in Rebels season 2.

Yeah, so far as I'm aware this, this and this were the first times McDiarmid ever played Palpatine in anything outside of the movies.
And yes, as one can see here, they took the opportunity to have him re-record Witwer's lines from 'Siege of Lothal'.

And of course most recently there's been this.
Plus it sounds like he's back for 'The Bad Batch" Season 2 (technically "back", since he appearance in season 1 was archival material from RotS.)

Not sure why he hadn't done this prior to Rebels and is now seemingly all on-board. I don't know if he's addressed it in any interviews, though if I had to take a wild and ill-informed guess I'd say that up until some years ago he'd just been too busy with theatre work, but he's at the age when that work is slowing down and voice-work is suddenly a little more appealing.

Honestly, I like the Witwer version more. He's a bit more creepy and evil sounding.

Honestly, I prefer Witwer's take on the scene too. Though in all fairness I can't be sure how much of that is the mere-exposure effect. Either way, it makes more sense overall to keep the new version going forwards.

We spent 24 years with Clive Revill as one of the canonical voices for Palpatine so Witwer is fine if that's who we get.

Sam's first role as Palpatine was in Force Unleashed. He streamed the game a few times over the last 3-4 weeks and was talking about it, and was doing various lines from the movies as 'Prequel Palpatine' and 'ROTJ Palpatine'. Explaining how they sound different, and such.

His Palpatine voice sounds better now than it did in TFU, which makes sense it was his first time doing it.

Ohh I forgot about him speaking in that trailer.
