Babylon 5

Well, I was carrying forward the word because I thought it was funny. But I do remember that it was one of those things where all of the characters were misfits and losers who were down to their last chance.

Not that I recall. Can you give examples? The only ones I can think of that might be termed 'nutters' would be the Narn Engineer Na'Feel who had a stern talk with the engins and Tirk who wasn't particulary talkative. The others were all respected officers, weren't they?

Heck if I've got an issue with Rangers at all, it's Tirk. I had no use for that character at all.

I think it's a bit unfair to write off Tirk just based on that one pilot episode. Presumably had it gone to series there would have been opportunities down the line to explore his character in more depth.
Personally I always took his mode of speech to be more of a linguistic issue, having probably only recently learned English and I rather liked his blunt, straightforward thinking. Hell, compared to most other Drazi characters we've had over the years, he's downright charming. ;)

Indeed, besides the two male leads, just about all the characters were fairly one-dimensional in that pilot. Which I suspect was the point. They're established as broad archetypes before having those preconceptions turned on their heads, much like Londo & G'Kar in season 1.

I just finished "A distant Star and that episode was great.

Why did the Shadow ship look like it was pointing the way for that last fighter to go home? Was it also lost? I half expected the ship to shoot anything it saw..

No, they can just fly in either direction. Generally they attack with the spines pointed forwards and cruse with them pointed backwards.

Yeah but it was weird seeing the ship just pop in and out like that....... I was expecting it to blow the starfury away for no reason.

Does a person notice every ant they step on? I doubt it noticed or cared to notice.

NO I suppose not... But I did try and find out more in the lurkers guide

Well after looking this one up in the Lurkers guide they said that the shadow ship probably did see both ships, but realizing they were both from Earth decided not to take any action..... I had no idea that site was still active.

The Lurker's Guide site is still available, but I don't think there haven't been any new entries in a long time.

IIRC, shortly after the series ended, or possibly after the site manager graduated college, he was saying that he was going to take the Lurker's Guide down, since it had served its purpose. The reaction from the internet was overwhelmingly "NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!"

I have heard that unattended forums for cancelled tv shows are occasionally used by criminal types to send messages to each other.

For the most part it's just spammers - mostly SEO, as far as I can tell. JMSnews has had to go to great lengths to discourage the over 300 spam posts per day that we were getting. Now a person has to post an introductory post and then I ask the site owner to upgrade their account so they can post in the main forums. It's a pain but worth it, I think.

That sounds very wise.

I used to run a "La Femme Nikita" forum on yahoo when the show was on TV back in 1998 and we had 450 regular members and even back then the spammers would join just to do their spammy thing and we changed the site rules to what you described which cut down on the spam.

Those were very good times back then.

I was think to buy the seasons on iTunes but am concerned they might release them in HD at some point. I hate to spend the money for them to reuse a better quality version down the road. I do have them on DVD but some are scratched and will not play anymore. Does anybody know if there are any plans for an HD transfer?

^ There can't be a HD transfer. The effects would all have to be redone, and they're not going to do that. So B5 is unreleasable in any high definition format (including broadcast).

Try a disk repair kit, they actually work.

No, no plans. As stated, all of the CGI would have to be re-done and JMS has said that there's no way WB would ever put up the money (and no, crowd-funding would never raise enough)

And she's the best damn moderator this side of Epsilon Eridani!
Aw, gorsh, thanks! (iI's hardly a hard job over there!) :bolian:
