Babylon 5

We seem to be getting a little off-topic to what gaslighting Noname was referring to? As far as I know, Andrea left because she wanted a bigger role, and I haven't heard either side dispute that. And if it's about Claudia's departure, I don't think it had anything to do with that "date"... There's some disagreement on the details, but both sides seem to agree she wanted time off to film a movie, but then communication broke down and deadlines passed in negotiating her contract.

All I've ever heard is that as you say, Thompson wanted more to do (and fair enough, her character wasn't used all that much in season 2) JMS et al explained that the way the character arcs are plotted, that's not going to happen for a while. Thompson then opted not to reup her contract and pursue other opportunities. All pretty standard show business dealings. The closest I've heard to anything controversial about that (and this is only a vague recollection on my part) is that Doyle (who was Thompson's husband at the time) *may* have gotten a little pushy on her behalf. Again though, that may not even be true so far as I know.

As for Claudia's departure...if I had a penny for every different version of those events I've heard from various parties I'd have...*counts*...about 7p. Honestly, at this point I wouldn't be surprised if there's a version of it where Jimmy Hoffa and the Loch Ness Monster have a joint cameo. All we really know as outside observers is that at some point a contract was offered and said contract was not signed by a certain time and suddenly Tracy Scoggins' agent is getting a call.

Minor quibble here - and I truly don't mean to seem argumentive - Thompson asked to be released from her contract, there was no re-up available. The only reason I mention it is because the fact that the cast was under a five-year contract is a key point in the Christian debacle.

From what I knew at the time, the late renewal meant none of the cast was under contract, but most agreed to come back.
Claudia was willing, but wanted time off to do some movies. Jms was willing to write the scripts so she'd be free, but the film producers wanted a guarantee that she'd be free, and the studio wanted her under contract for a full season, even though jms was planning to write around her so she wasn't needed.

An article in the news paper Garibaldi is reading: "Pros and cons of interspecies mating". Nice touch.
" 'Marsupials definitely have the right idea on child rearing' say some"

The more important article is the one next to it: "PSI-CORPS IN ELECTION TANGLE: Did Psi-Corps Violate Its Charter By Endorsing Vice President?"

The other article about "San Diego Still Considered Too Radioactive For Occupancy" and the big headline about the Homeguard Leader Convicted in attack on Minbari Embassy. You can find a lot of spoilers in Universe Today.

JMS lived in San Diego from the mid 70's to the early 80's.

Yup, heard that version, and as I said; several others.

So is this AI upscaled? There's a company advertising AI upscaling on my Facebook feed using Babylon 5 footage. The results aren't great, IMHO.

The key part that's missing from that, though, is that all the rest of the cast had signed 30-day extensions to the 'drop dead' date for pick-up. Only Christian didn't. And she complained about there being a hurry to sign? That was entirely due to the pick-up extension expiring *while they were at the Blackpool convention*.

No. As far as I can tell (no one has explicitly linked these two pieces of information, but it makes the most sense), this new HD release is from film prints of the episodes prepared during first-run for international distribution.

Ah fair enough. I wonder why the company is advertising AI upscaling using B5 footage then...

Honestly I've never seen much of a meaningful distinction between the two when most "autobiographies" are ghostwritten anyway. Straight-up biographies on the other hand are just a different flavour of unreliable. There's always some angle they're coming from, some bias they're leaning into whether they know it or not.
OK, that's a fair point.

Saw that. Weird. Guessing not official. They used The Gathering pilot, which hasn't been remastered.

The closest we've come to an official statement about the remastering comes from Engadget, and from watching up to mid-Season 3, I'd say this sounds accurate:

"A Warner Bros. spokesperson told Engadget that Babylon 5 Remastered has been scanned from the original camera negative. The film sequences were scanned in 4K and then “finished,” or downscaled, back to HD, with a dirt and scratch clean-up, as well as color correction. The show’s CGI and composite sequences, meanwhile, have been digitally upscaled to HD with only some minor tweaks where absolutely necessary... In addition, the show’s pilot movie, The Gathering, has been thrown in as a bonus extra, without any remastering."

Yep, I'd forgotten about the month extension. Was on the SFX staff at the time so got a window seat to the chaos.

"Hunter, Prey"

Looks like Kosh and the Vorlons are slowly but surely being delved into - this is long overdue as I've always been fascinated by them. It felt as though Sheridan was acting as a facsimile for the audience with his frustrations towards Kosh: "I've been here for months and I don't know anything about you! I demand that you reveal more information about yourself and your race!" As ever, we get only the slightest of teases. "I will teach you... about yourself..." "And about you?" "Yes... and no..."

Elsewhere, evidence of conspiracy continues to make itself clear via the revelations of the Earth Vice-President's personal physician. It'll certainly be interesting to see how this develops. Between this plot, the Narn/Centauri conflict, and the surely-coming Shadow War, it seems that chaos is imminent.

Rating: ***

-I appreciate the ambition but the SFX didn't exactly do Kosh's ship justice; I found it hard to buy the wonder and amazement expressed by anyone who so much as laid eyes upon what appeared to be an old Windows screensaver.
-Not as much to say this time around; that's because I actually watched this episode almost two weeks ago!

Ah, another instance of Bernie Casey giving a sadly wooden performance. Between this and Cal Hudson on DS9, I'm really curious as to performances he's given that are well-regarded.

I was at that con, and that's the story I'm most familiar with that there was something contract related that had to be signed whilst they were at that con .

A close encounter of the Ranger kind. Garibaldi notices and probably meets with a Ranger he sees walking by off screen. While Sheridan sees his red ribbon and has his on screen meeting with his contact.

Great performance by Richard Moll (a.k.a. "Bull" Shannon from Night Court) as a bad guy, but with hair this time.

Ah, I thought I'd recognised him but couldn't place where I'd seen him before. You can tell that the performance didn't make all that much of an impression given that I didn't even mention him. Still, at least it gave us the "Downtown" scene.
