Babylon 5 viewing order

Lyta Alexander looks a lot better with the longer hair, she looked a bit too much like another female character from the OTHER space station show that I love.

I think you'll find that might have something to do with her working as Nana Visitor's stunt double around the same time. ;)

PS

Kiffer - Give a Vir like handwave, I don't think I will miss him.

Well that shadow vessel certainly didn't! *punchline drum roll*

Hahaha on the shadow shooting. And that makes sense now as they are of the same build and about the same color hair. And even if Andrea Thompson was a blond bombshell, I kinda like Lyta Alexander better.

Speaking of funny, was the race delenn was declining trade relations with the same in "Acts of Sacrifice"?

It's true.

(I hope I read the Talia and Susan staying over bit correctly, since it was done with a subtle hand...)
I think you are. Wasn't there some controversy over what was actually shot for those scenes? People believed a kiss had been edited out, even though really that was neither scripted nor filmed?

The Long, Twilight Struggle - Wow, this is a impressive episode, actually in my mind, might be the best of the series so far.
Aye, it's my favorite of the season. Some prefer Coming of Shadows, but Twilight gets my vote. The scene with Londo and G'Kar in the council chambers still gives me shivers.

Comes the Inquisitor - Curious episode. Funny enough I guessed who it was once I saw his outfit and him looking down and talking about filth, and the camera zoomed in on what may be a "lady of the night."
Not one of my favorite episodes, but the fact that the Vorlons have been visiting Earth for a long time is interesting...

Am I the only one who kind of liked Warren Keffer? Not the best character, but at least gave a face to the Starfury pilots. And his ultimately fatal search for the Shadows was interesting.

Hard to comment on the rest without venturing in to spoiler territory. So I'll just say you're getting to the meat of the story now, with darker and better episodes yet to come!

Yup. :techman:

Yes, you are the only one :guffaw:

My thoughts are below on Keffer

In all seriousness, he wasn't bad, but didn't add anything to the show, I feel more connection to Zach/Zack the assistant Security Chief then ever did the pilot.

Though as a aside, I am just curious, did Mira Furlan have a hard time with her makeup, or was it totally story related on why she changed at the first part of season 2...

The Lumati? Yeah, that's them. Clearly Delenn being a more experienced diplomat than Ivanova did her homework first. ;)

Oh for sure, Zack is a great character. I just didn't hate Keffer as much as most seem to. Even JMS. Apparently the story was that having a top shot pilot character was something WB inisted on, and JMS took great pleasure in killing him off as soon as no one was looking. The special effects team even went the extra mile to animate his face melting off!

If you're referring to Delenn changing from Minbari to more human, it is story related. You'll note she still wears the Minbari makeup in the first episode of season 2 (in the flashback). In fact, according to Mira in the official episode guide, the more human form is the same prosthetic and took even longer to apply because of the hair, so it didn't help ease the makeup application at all.

Well that's good, because Zack will still be around :)

JMS had proposed a Japanese fighter pilot character to be the Zeta Squad leader, but PTEN nixed that and wanted a young, brash, "Han Solo" type, and wouldn't renew the show without that character in place. So he put in the character but made sure to kill him off.

Oh ah, I thought you meant how her half-human makeup refined as the season progressed. If you meant the initial change itself, yeah, that was something planned from day one. In fact the Delenn was first envisioned as a male character who would undergo a sex change as well in the Chrysalis. As late as The Gathering they were still toying with the idea of modulating Mira's voice to pull that off.

It was story related, and she wasn't pleased as she always had a problem with the makeup. From one of the co-founders of Optic Nerve, Everett Burrell.

For example, Mira wanted to come out of her cocoon at the start of the second season and be human……no make-up effects. Well that did not go over so big with many of those involved. Frankly I did not care as it meant less work for us. J.M.S would not stand for it though, he still wanted Delenn to look somewhat alien. It meant a lot of make-up tests and a lot of tears from Mira. Nobody would tell her so John Copeland stepped in and gave Mira the bad news - you must wear some type of alien appliance. That ended up being her head bone…..only. I hated the look and fought with Mira about it, but in the end I just gave up.

The question came up whether a kiss had been edited out but JMS said that it was just awkward editing. When Talia woke up and reached for the other side of the bed, though, she was definitely reaching for Susan.

What I loved most about that scene was the set dressing, though. We opened on a picture of an eclipse, a shadow obscuring a genuine item down to Talia who had an implanted, shadow if you will, personality.

People hate Keffer? How can you hate someone that was barely around?

I didn't mind the inclusion of Keffer at all. I did, however, find it extremely confusing that he was featured in the opening credits as a main character.

The opening credits list anyone in the show who's on contract for that season, regardless of how many episodes it was for. Kind of like Jake Sisko always being in the DS9 credits even though we hardly ever see him later. I belive Keffer ended up in six or seven episodes.

Aha, I was wondering, I didn't hate him, but the only time he served a useful purpose that the "minor flight boy of the week" couldn't do is in GROPOS, and that not a great episode. NO great loss to the series.

I will most likely take a break over the weekend before starting back in watching Season 3 of B5.

Finished Matter of Honor - first off, cool episode, and it goes to prove that any station show needs a cool ship to get around in (Ds9 had the Defiant, B5 has the White star.)

Liked the opening credits, noticed that you had starfuries fighting star-furies. Also I am sure the miltary caste would be pissed to find out that the Star-killer who killed the Blackstar is now in command of the white star.

Also, one day I want to see a Minbari that is psychotic and homicidal from drinking. Also a good point that it could be any Vorlon in the encounter suit. Last but not least, I am still upset that my salvage operation idea (some call it grave robbing) of the Markab has been slightly ruined :p

Yeah, this is the episode I was thinking about when you mentioned it before! The "Bonehead Maneuver" :)

Indeed, Guess I would have to save up for a ship that can jump on its own to strip Markab bare.

also it takes a Bonehead and Vorlon ship to pull off the Bonehead maneuver .

^Correction. It takes a hybrid Vorlon ship to *survive* the Bonehead Manoeuvre. ;)

You know something always bothered me about Sheridan's rationalisation for his choice of gate. While it'd certainly be better than picking a gate that's used legitimately; all destroying that gate did was prevent the small time riff-raff and raider type from looting the joint. Governments and the megacorps like IPX can just roll in with jump capable ships whenever they please.

That's assuming that the tachyon beacon wasn't destroyed too of course, in which case they'd probably have to jump to the next nearest gate and make the rest of the way in normal space at relativistic speeds. Probably not worth the investment, even for a few planets full of salvage. Probably far better to just salvage their derelict ships...that is at least the ones that weren't in hyperspace when the plague hit.
