that time Peter Sripol built a human-flying drone sleigh and got his dad to fly in it.
skip to around 18:45 for the flying stuff

Yeah cool but quite fugly. The Jetson One is nice too but again how practical is it?

Just getting back to this one I noticed the odd landing gear. Now scale that up and paint it gold and you could have the flying condor from Mysterious Cities Of Gold

Proteus Hyper-Transport Concept Cargo Plane, designed to beat the AN-225

I like the concept, I wish it was a 4x engine setup instead of the 6x engine setup.

Use 4x GE9X engines with 110,000 lbf of max thrust for a total of 440,000 lbf of combined max thrust.

instead of

Using 6x GEnx-1B78/P2 engines with 80,400 lbf of max thrust for a total of 482,400 lbf of combined max thrust.

Operators already have a dislike for 4x engine aircraft due to maintenance costs compared to 2x engine variants.

That's why the majority of planes are going 2x engines as the normal configuration.

Trying to sell operators on 6x engines is suicide when you can probably get by with 4x engines and adjust your load rating as needed.

why does a cargo plane have windows?

I can't see a need for anything like it right now. But if there was a need for something in that load class, seems like new versions of the Stratolaunch Roc could fill the bill. It has the advantage of existing. As is, it can lift as much as the AN-225 and could probably tweaked for more, since cargo hauling wasn't its initial purpose. If the design reverted back to Northrop Grumman/Scaled they'd probably be happy to build more, if not, whoever owns the assets of Stratolaunch.. ok that IS the assets of Stratolaunch, would sell them cheaply, I think.

It's a hybrid Cargo Plane where a small section is used for small amount of passengers (up to 200 people).

The Proteus Concept is derived off the Strato Launch, ergo the twin tail section and the Blended Wing Body design with large cargo cavern.

The internal crane to move cargo once it lands and needs to deploy intermodal containers in an area where deploying containers doesn't have support infrastructure.

nice video of an ASG29 sailplane releasing water ballast. Beautiful aircraft. 1 to 50 glide ratio.

Mwah, scale it up a bit, add some thingymabobs and engine stuff, some tiles here and there and give it a flashy paintjob, that will do it.;)

Although the idea is of course absolutely brilliant I would expect them to turn it down because of all the palaver about reality, science and maybe even logic..;)

I assume a Mirage III/V or 2000 would be a little better than the Shuttle, not much though but it could be worse like having to fly a F-104 without engine power..

the Australian Airforce flew the IIIs that were built/assembled in Australian.

Last mention I can remember of them was them flying to Woomera in far north South Australia for storage but just did some searching and it seems that they were all sold to Pakistan which currently has 50 Mirage IIIs in service so maybe some Australian ones are still flying.

I used to hear tales of an IDF pilot who landed a Kfir with one wing using mostly thrust and half a delta wing. The Kfir was kind of a copy of the Mirage but I have since heard the tale was only half true and he was in a F-15. Still interesting. When you have no glide ratio, power it out.
