Researchers at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, led by Ivan Bermejo-Moreno, assistant professor of aerospace and mechanical engineering, studied a similar phenomenon with gases at high speeds, with an eye toward more efficient mixing to support supersonic scramjet engines.

he may have got caught by a wind gust but to my eyes there's some pilot error in there the way he was buzzing about.

you know what they say and old and bold pilots....

Ha!

I never thought I would see a warbird like that again..then here comes the Calidus B-350!

By the way, Neil deGrasse Tyson called a helicopter “a brick” on the engine dying.
A new simulation showed what happens when engines die near a mountain.

Glide stretching and autorotation for the win.

the Super Tucano vs P-51 on DCS.

I love the Super Tucano but unless modern (air to air) missiles are slung under it, with both pilots of same skill, most world war II warbirds would destroy these modern light attack turboprop planes.

Hmm.. if I'd have to fight a WW-2 fighter like the Spitfire or a Mustang I'd take a A-10 Warthog.. same speed, more armor and a reaaaally big gun..

interestingly the US is putting more money into smaller attack planes themselves. I know they have their own Super Tucanos and as of a few months ago they've stared buying the new attack variant of the T-6 Texan, called Wolverine.

I guess with a lot of mission profiles you don't need a spiffy multirole and multimillion dollar costing fighter aircraft, for local conflicts and with limited facilities for maintenance and small airstrips these little aircraft would be perfect.

in a more gruesome discussion.. an aggressor can only field so many fifth generation fighters. in simulation, hoards of these little planes packing sidewinders would be the equivalent of human wave tactic to prevent an invading power from achieving air superiority. not that anyone is planning for that, but it could be done.
