Avengers Infinity War (and beyond) anticipation thread

Every main superhero character from all of the MCU films are going to be in it. No word on the Defenders or the SHIELD agents (Coulson, May, etc.), but as much as I and others would like them to appear even in a small capacity, the chances of them appearing seems unlikely.

Charlie Cox is known to have met with Kevin Feige on at least one occasion after the success of Daredevil 1 to discuss ways the character could get folded into those movies, but all of those plans went away after Feige executed his putsch in the summer of 2015 to have the studio reorganized: Feige now controls the movies, Perlmutter and Jeph Loeb control television and animation, and ne'er the twain shall meet.

As for the trailer ... wow, words cannot describe how awful that looks. I thought Civil War might have just been teething pains, but the Bros. Russo have either regressed from Winter Soldier or this is, like, a storyboard problem. I'm especially astounded at how terrible the lighting is, it's like every shot has the fullbright mode from Quake 3 enabled.

Yeah, I remember that and I'm still disappointed by that development. I still hold out for a glimmer of hope for at least a cameo for the Defenders. I know it's unlikely, but a man can dream, right?

Huh. I could have sworn it was confirmed that she wasn't going to be in because they didn't want to preempt her debut in the solo film, much like they didn't want Hope's debut as Wasp be preempt either. I guess they changed their minds. I wonder if the same is true for Hope and that would explain why she is on the Variety cover.

It's more than just unlikely, it's literally never going to happen: Marvel's TV and film sandboxes are now completely separate from one another (just look at how delicately the Netflix shows dance around events from the movies, or how Agents of SHIELD went full bonkers a few years ago after getting kicked out of the movie universe).

I'm very curious to see exactly how AoS is going to handle the events Infinity War and A4. Since, like you said, the TV and movie groups are now more separated, I doubt we'll see any direct connections, but if they still want us to believe that AoS is in the same universe as the movies, they can't ignore them.

Well she doesn't actually say Captain Marvel is in the movie, it could just be Carol Danvers. We just think its Captain Marvel because of the interaction with the Hulk.

Considering her film takes place in the 90s, it seems unlikely that her presence in the modern setting isn't as Captain Marvel.

Thanos looks kind of goofy to me. Like some big dumb burly guy you expect to get in a bar fight with in a movie. A biker or a truck driver.

Yeah, I kind of agree, from the limited trailer shots, but I'll keep an open mind. :) Otherwise the trailer looks pretty good, so I'll be looking forward to more.

I wonder how and why Thor and Banner get separated so quickly. Might have something do with why Dr. Strange and Wong fought the Hulk?

Just spit-balling here, but it doesn't look like Strange and Wong fight Hulk as much as he comes crashing through the roof of the Sanctum. Combined with the shot of Loki and the Tesseract, I'm thinking it goes like this:

-Thanos attacks Starship Asgard. After much smashing, Hulk blasted off the ship. Loki surrenders the Tesseract/Space stone (or, alternatively, "dies" trying to keep it from Thanos)

-Hulk crashes to earth, right through the roof of the Sanctum. Cue the Strange, Banner, Wong, Stark team-up. Which kind of looks like it's a prelude to an attack on NYC (Thanos coming for the Time or Mind stones?)

LOL, Sony is not letting Marvel kill off Peter Parker a year after Homecoming literally rejuvenated their film division and a month after losing the James Bond rights. Beyond that, Tom Holland is signed for two Homecoming sequels.

Well, they can probably get away with killing him off. It provides a storyline for future Spider-Man movies featuring Tom Holland.

That's a big problem. While its clear the Netflix series are largely ignored by the average move-goer who watches MCU films, from a corporate standpoint, it all one universe, and there's no way the Netflix series can continue to tap dance around movie events that cause major disasters, especially when it takes place in New York.

Trailer: interested in all things Cap/Bucky/Black Panther.
Thanos was far too obvious a CG element, and apparently, War Machine ends up in Wakanda. I'm guessing their medical technology will grant his full recovery.

Well, the Netflix shows all took place before Civil War including Defenders so to this point there won't be any problems. It's only after Infinity Wars that it might be a problem.

They could also do what Dr Who did when people wondered why anyone stays in London during Christmas when there's a record of alien invasions there. Just have the writer up and say "Yes, I know that it stretches believably that anyone is in London but the bottom line is that the story just wouldn't work if the city was empty and we didn't want to set it in the Country. Just accept that no one in this universe has the sense to move away or go somewhere else for the Holidays."

That makes sense. Fair point on Strange and Wong not actually fighting Hulk, but reacting to falling through the roof, especially considering the looks on their faces.

And I would say Thanos senses that both of the stones are in New York. Come to think of it, surely someone would have realized, hey, it's a bad idea to have two of them so close to each other, but I guess it's not public knowledge that the Vision has the Mind Stone.

Yeah, there's no way they're killing off Holland's Peter so soon to make way for Miles Morales (or anyone else). Maybe a temporary thing and then restored by the Gauntlet (like it happens in the mini-series), but nothing permanent.

I have a hard time believing either the Netflix series or Agents of SHIELD (assuming it goes beyond season 5) ignoring the events of Infinity War.

Ugh, I hate that reasoning, even if I understand why they do it.

Killing peeps off and bringing them back is part of the 'Infinity Gauntlet' story from the comics
