I loved the movie and I'm looking forward to watching it again to see what I missed. It's coming out on dvd soon? I probably won't get it til I wake up on Christmas, though, but I'm looking foreword to it.
I'm very undecided whether it was as good as the first Avengers or better. It's close and I'm going to say it's about the same. I was disappointed Quicksilver is mostly dead, but with the medical technology they showed in the movie it's possible he will be back. I liked Ultron, it's too bad that he was only in this movie, but he (it) may also be back with his ability to replicate himself. I like this version of Vision, he was still created by Ultron but not from the original Human Torch's body or Simon Williams consciousness.
I don't see what some people are saying about forced changes or artificial conflicts just to whatever. I think they seemed to flow very naturally from previous installments.
Tony really wanted to stop being Iron Man at the end of Iron Man 3, or at least stop having to be Iron Man. In Iron Man 2 he was claiming to have brought world peace, whether that's actually true or grandstanding, he may have really felt after a time that he was responsible for "world peace" and that is a huge amount of pressure to be under. Then he sees a way out in this movie, Ultron was the ultimate extension for is Iron Guard drones, a system that can react and stop problems so they don't get anywhere. Unfortunately, that was almost, though not quite as violent, as HYDRA's plan in Winter Soldier to kill everyone that might be a threat ahead of time. He was going to have an Ultron guarding everyone and stopping problems. And Cap's against this just like he was against that. Their motivations seem perfectly inline with previous movies and continuing into the next.
Hulk not wanting to hurt innocent people is brought to a head for him by Scarlet Witch tampering with his control and Black Widow's advances. Of course he's going to want to distance himself from that. The last time a woman tried to get close to him he almost turned into the Hulk. I don't think he'd want that to happen during any intimate moments, it would be really hard on the woman.
Natasha's love is for children was regarding Hawkeye and said to the god of mischief in order to try to get information from him. I think the closeness that developed because of her ability to calm the Hulk back to puny Banner is what caused her crush and also very understandable. When I first heard about it I facepalmed, but seeing it in the movie I didn't mind it at all and it seemed natural to me. I also really like seeing the Hulk turn back into Banner for the first time in the MCU. I was wondering how they did it.
Thor was cheated a bit, he had a much longer vision quest or whatever that would have been that was cut. For time? Not good enough? I'd have like to seen it.
I'm a little surprised Rhodey and Falcon are actually joined up as official Avengers, but I like it. And I loved seeing Falcon in Ant-Man.
And I really like that whole scene with everyone trying to lift Thor's hammer. It looked kind of dumb in the previews but in the movie it had a lot of subtle angles and expressions that made it great for me. I loved the look on Thor's face when Cap moved it slightly without realizing it. Absolutely perfectly done.
I also liked the scenes that the Witch caused the Avengers to live through. I thought they all added to the character's backgrounds without having no reason to be there. And I loved Hawkeye's reaction to the mind control! Great! Too bad QS bonked him silly right after. And Thor, "Fortunately, I am Mighty", that was great.
I really liked the Iron Man vs. Hulk. That was a good fight. I like Hawkeye's farm and family and Fury showing up, both times.
My main complaint are with the after scene. The Thanos scene was too quick and kind of dumb. Yes, it was coming to that and yes he has his own gauntlet, but it really just came off as a bad joke. Compare that to his non speaking appearance in the first Avengers and it's a really a huge step down. That plus they didn't even include a smallish anything at the end after I sat through the whole damn credits. Anything, a ten second fluff, something. I guess I'm spoiled. I would have loved if they let Cap finish his Avenger's .... scene for just 5 seconds more.
