I loved the movie and I'm looking forward to watching it again to see what I missed. It's coming out on dvd soon? I probably won't get it til I wake up on Christmas, though, but I'm looking foreword to it.

I'm very undecided whether it was as good as the first Avengers or better. It's close and I'm going to say it's about the same. I was disappointed Quicksilver is mostly dead, but with the medical technology they showed in the movie it's possible he will be back. I liked Ultron, it's too bad that he was only in this movie, but he (it) may also be back with his ability to replicate himself. I like this version of Vision, he was still created by Ultron but not from the original Human Torch's body or Simon Williams consciousness.

I don't see what some people are saying about forced changes or artificial conflicts just to whatever. I think they seemed to flow very naturally from previous installments.

Tony really wanted to stop being Iron Man at the end of Iron Man 3, or at least stop having to be Iron Man. In Iron Man 2 he was claiming to have brought world peace, whether that's actually true or grandstanding, he may have really felt after a time that he was responsible for "world peace" and that is a huge amount of pressure to be under. Then he sees a way out in this movie, Ultron was the ultimate extension for is Iron Guard drones, a system that can react and stop problems so they don't get anywhere. Unfortunately, that was almost, though not quite as violent, as HYDRA's plan in Winter Soldier to kill everyone that might be a threat ahead of time. He was going to have an Ultron guarding everyone and stopping problems. And Cap's against this just like he was against that. Their motivations seem perfectly inline with previous movies and continuing into the next.

Hulk not wanting to hurt innocent people is brought to a head for him by Scarlet Witch tampering with his control and Black Widow's advances. Of course he's going to want to distance himself from that. The last time a woman tried to get close to him he almost turned into the Hulk. I don't think he'd want that to happen during any intimate moments, it would be really hard on the woman.

Natasha's love is for children was regarding Hawkeye and said to the god of mischief in order to try to get information from him. I think the closeness that developed because of her ability to calm the Hulk back to puny Banner is what caused her crush and also very understandable. When I first heard about it I facepalmed, but seeing it in the movie I didn't mind it at all and it seemed natural to me. I also really like seeing the Hulk turn back into Banner for the first time in the MCU. I was wondering how they did it.

Thor was cheated a bit, he had a much longer vision quest or whatever that would have been that was cut. For time? Not good enough? I'd have like to seen it.

I'm a little surprised Rhodey and Falcon are actually joined up as official Avengers, but I like it. And I loved seeing Falcon in Ant-Man.

And I really like that whole scene with everyone trying to lift Thor's hammer. It looked kind of dumb in the previews but in the movie it had a lot of subtle angles and expressions that made it great for me. I loved the look on Thor's face when Cap moved it slightly without realizing it. Absolutely perfectly done.

I also liked the scenes that the Witch caused the Avengers to live through. I thought they all added to the character's backgrounds without having no reason to be there. And I loved Hawkeye's reaction to the mind control! Great! Too bad QS bonked him silly right after. And Thor, "Fortunately, I am Mighty", that was great.

I really liked the Iron Man vs. Hulk. That was a good fight. I like Hawkeye's farm and family and Fury showing up, both times.

My main complaint are with the after scene. The Thanos scene was too quick and kind of dumb. Yes, it was coming to that and yes he has his own gauntlet, but it really just came off as a bad joke. Compare that to his non speaking appearance in the first Avengers and it's a really a huge step down. That plus they didn't even include a smallish anything at the end after I sat through the whole damn credits. Anything, a ten second fluff, something. I guess I'm spoiled. I would have loved if they let Cap finish his Avenger's .... scene for just 5 seconds more.

I enjoyed AoU and it was a fine film but I think that is all it was: fine. It wasn't as exciting or spectacular as the first one. It felt to me the movie had to adapt itself to all the other films in the MCU whereas I think maybe they should to a degree be beholden to Avengers films.
I would like to have seen the Joss Whedon version of AoU and not the Marvel version. I am not saying it would have been better but maybe a bit more interesting or different.

Honest Trailer is out. I laughed.

DVD/Bluray will be available this Friday. Finally! I have a space for it already set out.

This movie has really grown on me on multiple viewings. It's got some really great stuff in it. And quite a bit of verve. :)

That's what I've been saying! :p

(Also, there was no rogue nation in this year's Mission: Impossible; just a rogue syndicate.)

Does anyone have the US Blu-ray already? If so, is the audio mix really as shitty as has been reported?

Yeah I enjoyed my second viewing quite a bit. The constant quips were less grating and I was able to follow the plot points better.

Probably going to be against the grain here, but while AoU was a decent film, it was a big step back for me in terms of general quality compared to the first Avengers film, Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy.

There seemed to be a lot of character interaction and relationships either totally changed or ramped up without any real explanation (the Banner/Black Widow thing comes totally out of nowhere and just does not fit) and Ultron was a let down for me.

James Spader got the voice right but his plan just seemed to be pretty dumb- and it ended up looking very similar stylistically to the end of the first Avengers film.

Quicksilver was a big let down, far less effective than the X-Men: Days of Future Past version.

Scarlet Witch was underdeveloped too- will only X-Men Evolution get close to getting her powers right?

B- for me. Enjoyable but limited.

I've just watched pieces of it but the sound during the talking scenes needs to be cranked up to hear the dialog. I remember it being like that in the theater as well.

So many blurays these days, the sound effects our so loud, that when I set the volume on my homecinemaset to a level that's comfortable, the dialogue is usually very low. With AoU, I felt that it was the other way around a lot of the times.

Watching it for the second time now, I feel that this is indeed not the best MCU movie, nor the worst. It was funny, actionpacked, and damned entertaining. But certainly flawed at times, and you can tell there was more to this story.

Still, I'll enjoy this movie quite a lot on a saturday with friends, snacks and a few beers in the years to come.

The TV ad calls it "the biggest superhero movie of the year".

Well, duh. When your only competition is Ant-Man, that's not hard!

You're forgetting Fantastic Four.

...Just the like the entire world has. ;)

Edit: Shit, Alidar beat me to it.

Fantastic Four?

Fantastic Four was DOA/stillborn. It never had a chance.

But yeah, AoU being called the biggest superhero of the year is hilarious. Of the 3 competitors, two of them were MCU films and of those two, one was a team of likeable superheroes and the other was An-Man.

2014 and 2013 had a better crop superhero film to totem pole and hype.

2014:
X-Men Days of Future Past (Fox)
Captain America The Winter Soldier (MCU)
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Sony)
Guardians of the Galaxy (MCU)

2013:
Iron Man 3 (MCU)
The Wolverine (Fox)
Man of Steel (WB)
Thor The Dark World (MCU)

If you asked me who won in either year, I'd really have to think about it. A lot of the properties were great.

2016 looks good for competition wise for superhero films, too.

Deadpool (Fox)
X-Men Apocalypse (Fox)
Captain America Civil War (MCU)
Doctor Strange (MCU)
Batman v Superman (WB)
Suicide Squad (WB)

Who will be the winners?

I can't wait to pick up the Blu-ray and check out the deleted scenes. I feel like some of AoU's problems would have been alleviated if the movie had just been, like, ten minutes longer.
