Avatar -still or animated?

I prefer still avs. I find the animated ones to be too distracting.

Thanks for the reference to KMPlayer, Spiff! I see now... so, the software can capture a bunch of frames and then you use whatever ones you need to get your effect. Very nice.

You're welcome. I used to do it manually with PowerDVD , finding my scene, then capturing every third frame. But KMPlayer speeds up that part.

It'll also capture from a variety of different formats, so I use it if I want to make captures from Quicktime trailers, Flash files, and the like.

I prefer the animated avatars, but I find the subject matter of the avatar more important than if it moves or not, but animation is a definite plus.
