^You make some AWESOME avs! I'm very jealous.
Aww, thanks, auntiehill. :)

As stated earlier...the absolute and undisputed MASTER of the animated .gif
Oh, come on, one day I'm going to believe in your words. And then I'm going all megalomaniac. Thank you, though. Hope you know how much your words mean to me. :)

But I can still kick your ass if we limit it to stills. :p ;)
Well, that's undisputable. ;)

Personally, I find bad crops of bland promotional photo's more irritating than the occasional overdone animation

Some of us don't have the skill to create complicated avatars.

An avatar doesn't need to be complicated.

And there is lot of help at hand on this board! -many posters wear avtars they didn't make themselves.

I would rather make my own. Actual animations rather than still frames are beyond me, so I just do what I can,

I also find animated avatars too distracting. I almost always hit Escape when the page has finished loading so I can browse in peace.

I don't know how to make a moving one, I wouldn't know what sort of moving one I would like, and I prefer my still, meaningful ones... even if they only mean something to me. :)

I like animated ones, especially some of the loops, like flamingliberal's or DsZ's.

Hey, thanks!

I just like making the animated ones. I've actually sat there making notes while watching films as to where the best possible loops are so I can go back and cap them. I've done more ambitious ones before, involving still overlays and partial loops etc., but these are easier...

In avatar contests, I usually vote for the one that takes the most effort and skill. Occasionally a still av will strike me as being a really well-chosen and cropped image though.

Matching loops are a pain in the ass though a lot of times. I haven't made any new ones recently because nothing as striked me as being worth it to spend the time on it.

I don't have the skill to make very good animated avatars, so most of mine are static. Of course you can still do great things with static images.

As far as animated goes, I lack the necessary skills to do it well, like Temis and flamingliberal and a few others.

I also lack the necessary skills to do a still avatar well. I don't let that stop me!

There should have been an option for "No Preference." There are excellent (and horrible) avatars of both kinds. And, personally, I have no intention of laying off my little friend.

My first Bloo av was animated, but I quit using it after someone told me it made them seasick:
"Do Not Fall Down Stairs" was also very good. I mean, it always made me cringe because of the implication, but it was very well done. ;)

I prefer still avatars. Animated ones are a little too distracting, and certain ones are so bad I have to cover them with my hand to read the page.
