"Avatar" Sequels Delayed...does anybody care?

I can't think of a major movie that I hated more than Avatar. Yes it was successful, but I found myself rooting for the humans.

If the fate of an entire planet hinged on whether or not to blow up a tree, that tree is twigs.

It was a desperate situation for Earth, so it wasn't hard to sympathize with the humans.

I probably won't bother with the sequels, when or if they come out.

Yeah Avatar was on TV the other day - it hasn't held up that well, it's really not that great of a movie. It's actually pretty stupid.

Having the sequel(s!) be so delayed definitely isn't the wisest move either. Who cares about Avatar now other than those idiots that got Avatar tattoos? Dare I say when the sequel(s!) get released they'll......

FLOP!!!!

Well, directing a flop would be a novelty for Cameron; lately he breaks the records he sets.

Has he directed an actual movie (not a documentary) since Avatar?

I don't think he has.

I don't think anyone is arguing that Avatar wasn't a monster financial hit, but for me, the movie was not that good. His decision to make humans the villains didn't really work for me, especially since I liked the villain so much.

For me, Avatar is the story of a brave colonel, fighting to save humanity, who was betrayed by one of his own. A tragic story.

Avatar (2009) was his first "actual movie (not a documentary)" since Titanic in 1997. And it did fairly well. So I don't see what point you're making if you're trying to knock him (apologies if you're not)

And the humans messed up their planet all on their own. That's like a cancer ridden patient who their whole life has smoked 20 a day and it's totally their own fault, trying to steal the lungs from an innocent, healthy person and not caring what happens to them in the process. I know who I'd side with.

Cameron has been a director since 1981, and in that time has only directed 8 narrative movies.

^ And even then did he even properly direct Piranah II? I know his names on it, but wasn't it someone else who shot the majority of it? Can't remember, it was ages ago I read about it.
So 7 really.

I didn't really like Avatar except as mind-numbing entertainment. Comes off as anti-science/technology to me.

Yes, they were. "Avatar" was basically anti-greed, anti-colonial, anti-military and pro-environmental . . . at least to me. Even after seven-and-a-half years, I still the enjoy the movie very much. But I don't see the need for sequels.

^Less "anti-military" more "anti-ex-military turned corporate security".
Hairsplitting I know, but it's significant because it circles back to the greed thing.

As for sequels...I don't feel like they left us with a story only half told or anything, but I'm open to whatever Cameron has in mind.
His lack of credibility when recommending other people's Terminator movies notwithstanding, as a filmmaker and a storyteller he still has a very high batting average. I mean it may not be Shakespeare but his work is always entertaining.

Easy there, Barney. The title of the movie doesn't relate to him as The Terminator. Unless, of course, you can prove it. Fancy a challenge? ;)

Thoughts:
- I'm excited about the Avatar universe. Can't wait to see more of it.
- Have your dead one-dimensional villain be the villain of all four films? That's just great. I'm not watching.
- I love Stephen Lang. It's going to be good.
- Start filming now or I will post an opinion on Facebook that the sequels are not getting made. Cameron, you have been threatened! I'm not waiting until 2021. If you don't make it until then, I will get an advance copy and watch it.
- I hate arcs. I'm boycotting this sad Lord of the Rings wannabe.*
- No word on Grace? If she doesn't return, I will be sad.

* Wrote that sentence before I read the article. I swear.
