Do people hate Avatar now because it made so much money? This was the first modern movie to use immersive 3D. It was nominated for Oscars. People went and saw it multiple times. It's the second best selling home video of all time. Now it's like "Meh, Dances With Wolves in Space." I think the sequels are going to do pretty well at the box office. I certainly hope it doesn't go the way of Sin City; get a huge following and then not capitalize on a sequel for a decade.
I didn't hate it because it made so much money. I didn't like it because the characters were thin, the plot was meh. I will give it credit though: it's been the only 3D movie that was completely worth it. The 3D was great.
But, "unobtainium?" Ugh. Maybe one less CGI creature and a little more time on naming shit.
