August 08 Challenge - "The Unexpected Guest"

My entry: A Familiar Face

Christ! This was a difficult challenge. It sounded simple - just have an unexpected person appear, but blimey getting that properly fitted into a Trek story was impossible! Sneaky challenge, TheLoneRedshirt :techman:

Three excellent entries thus far from CaptCalhoun, Mistral and Trampledamage! Kudos to all three for capturing the spirit of the challenge! I anticipate another tight vote.

Still plenty of time to submit entries - deadline is August 29.

My entry is coming along nicely. With luck, it will be finished before the end of the week. It's quite different from my usual stuff.

Okay--my story is done. Just needs a little trimming and polishing. Like most of my entries, it's bumping its head on the maximum word limit.

I may strike while the iron's hot, and try to post it tonight.

I had the same problem this month - usually mine are way short of the limit, but this month's was too long! I had cut out sections - not something I'm used to. :scream:

Can't wait to see your story :techman:

I sort of ran right over the word limit like a 'possum in the road-but I'd rather tell the tale right than truncate it to fit the parameters.

ed-sides, last month I only used 800 or so words. I've got rollover minutes, why not rollover words?:)

thought yours seemed a little long, but I wasn't going to go back and count!

Long just in terms of word count - it definitely didn't drag. :)

:lol::techman:

Unfortunately, the internet cafe in my hall of residence does not offer MS Word. (:wtf:)

So I'll have to find a different place from which to post my story tomorrow.

Hope no-one minds - I've tagged this and the entry threads as the August Writing Challenge.

At least that's what I put in, the tag saving process removed the capital letters :scream:

Actually, from what I've read so far, I'm picking Mistral as this month's winner, for four reasons.

1. His story is at least as good as anyone else's.

2. His story is fun for Trek fans of all ages. It's cute and funny (as opposed to, say, dark and horrible). Trek + Disney = win.

3. After so many close calls, he'll get the sympathy vote. Everybody loves an underdog.

4. People are curious to see what his challenge will be.

So, barring some kind of October surprise...

Like a last-minute entry by Starkers...

()

I predict: Mistral ftw! :techman:

You heard it here first.
