Hello all. I thought i should start a thread about the audience reaction to the new trailer that came out yesterday. The reason i started a separate thread from the official thread is to not be spoiled about whats in the trailer. Which i already got some what spoiled. Anyways lets hear it. Whats the audience reaction? So we have an idea if the movie will appeal to the general audience.

The Theatrical Trailer...And My Big Theater Moment
Just tonight, I saw Quantom Of Solace. And what happened when The Trailer appeared on screen...inspired me like you wouldn't believe.
I seem to recall, when the kid decared that his name was "James Tiberius Kirk", there was a gasp somewhere in the audience.
And...when the giant title "STAR TREK" appeared on screen, two things happened. First, a girl behind my seat declared, "I wanna go see that!"
Second...the entire theater burst into cheers and applause!
Elated beyond belief, I lept up and shouted, "STAR TREK IS BACK!!!"
The cheers and applause increased all the more....
Wow...! I believe JJ has achieved his objective: to bring the general public back into an interest in Star Trek. Kudos to JJ & Co.--for making Star Trek COOL again!

That's great, Rush Limborg. There's nothing like being in a theatre with a bunch of other people who can get jacked-up for this kind of stuff. It's one of the most fun atmospheres to be in.
Can't say I have any stories of my own (as the Trek trailer didn't play with my screening of Bond
) but it's nice to hear that your experience was so positive.

When the trailer finished there were several 'What the f***s', several 'hahahas' and 'oh my goshs' Not the response you want with a trailer

In a very-packed theatre here in Boston, once the trailer finished up, there was a good solid 20 seconds of excited buzz ... more buzz than any of the other trailers of the evening generated. As for the tone, I'd call it "excited," with a touch of "incredulous." Not a lot of detractors around -- the feeling I got from the theatre atmosphere was unmistakably positive.
Like most people, I didn't pay much attention to the trailer itself until Young Kirk said his name. Up to that point I was considering a few witty quips about why the new Robocop looked like a Pepsi commercial.
In all, I was very pleased with the reaction. Depending on how the new season of Lost goes, this one might be a hit.

I saw it in a midnight show with a theater about half full.
The "Star Trek" trailer was the only ad to garner an audible response (other than occasional laughs for the Adam Sandler/Disney thing) and it was positive. Excited noises.

People in SoCal like NEVER react to trailers or even the MOVIE. It's like sitting with a bunch of zombies. I was the only one in the theater emoting at all. Throughout the trailers and the whole movie.

After the Trailer everyone in the theater was whispering to each other. It seemed to have made a big impression. This was in sandy Utah, a suburb of Salt Lake.
I didn't see it in the theater with the audience, but I get goosebumps. sure we can all talk about canon, about building ships on Earth blah blah but I know i can show this trailer to any movie fan, even those who hate the other Trek films, and they will probably want to see it. The trailer has a DRIVE, a momentum to it that no other Trek film really had. Only the climax of TUC seemed to be approaching this level of immediacy (though TWOK is my favorite) This film looks like a lot of fun. I'm willing to let a lot of things ( a lot of "cannon") fall by the wayside if we are going to get the thrill ride that Abrahms is promising here. in fact my only reservation, even above all the cannon stuff and all the ship stuff, is the reasons why Scotty was exiled. That I hope isn't the real reason or the whole story.
BTW I loved Urban. i don't know what he said, but it was something Bones would say, only delivered the way Eomer can deliver it. I think Urban has a fantastic voice, and he is intense!

I finally got to see the trailer tonight, awesome by the way. The audience was silent for the most part. I did get a couple "it looks good". So that is good. I don't think the silence means anything, i think people were surprise to be honest. Besides, cant really see a lot of non fans cheering for a trek movie even its looks cool to them.
I do get to sample a few different movie theaters from a few different cities quite a bit, so my general experience has been that unless it's a comedy that envokes laughter, you probably won't get "cheers" and what not. People are usually watching the trailers and eating their popcorn. So any "cheers" is BIG in relation.
However, the first screening I saw that screened the new Star Trek movie resulted in the audience cheering at the end. Just memorable.
Father and family saw "The Wrath of Khan" in theaters. The audience apparently stood up and applauded when the Enterprise snuck up behind the reliant in the nebula battle.

Saw it in the late morning/early afternoon on opening day of Quantum of Solace in the "auditorium" theater of my local Rave . . . and it was met with silence by the handful of people in the theater. Ordinarily, I would chalk that up to the small number of people, but the lady to my right and three rows up was constantly talking back excitedly to the screen during the Bond film, which suggests she wasn't impressed by the trailer.

In fact, it was the only Trek movie I recall seeing in the theater where people were so moved.

BTW, I remember clearly seeing the trailer for TWOK on a big screen in an old theater in Langley Park, in the Spring of 1982. A friend was a projectionist and let us in free just to watch the trailers before whatever movie was running.

Anywho...no one cared about the Trek trailer. There was laughter for the "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" trailer which was, probably, better than the movie itself.
