attention girls: embrace your inner...

^ I keep looking at mine too! Glad he had good taste and you love it:)
I didn't have anything in mind but man admits he would have had no idea!

No date yet ~ it took 4 years to get this far
Probably couple of years, but would like to get the joint house sorted out first... with a garden, a garden with the sun setting, with a big chair and a table for my glass of wine *dreams* and my man next to me doing the crossword :guffaw: I know it will be like that :)

We didn't get engaged we went straight to getting married, but I think my approach would have been the same with an engagement ring as it was with the wedding rings. We went together to a jeweller in London (Arnold's in Gabriel's Wharf, if I remember correctly) and got them custom made. We looked through their catalogue together, talked about what we wanted and what we thought would work.

It might not be "romantic" but for us, as for you, it resulted in rings we absolutely adored. Romantic gestures are nice, but with something as personal as a ring, I think selecting it yourself is vital.

It's the only ring I've ever worn. Unfortunately, after young master trampledamage was born, it would alternate between being too tight and too loose so I used to take it off and put it in my pocket. One of those times, it fell out - I don't know where but it's disappeared somewhere in the house. We've never seen it since :(

I do think it's totally the best way to do it and to get them custom made is romantic and extra special :) Man and I both knew that if he had choosen one I didn't like, I would have found it too hard to love it, as romantic as the gesture would have been.

Oh it's such a shame yours has gone missing, have you thought about getting a replacement?

Yeah, mr trampledamage would love to buy me a new one, but I've said we need to wait until the kids are a bit older so the two of us can more easily go shopping and looking at rings without actually having to chain the two children to the nearest lamp-post!

At the moment I have an old silver one of his, which is my "replacement" and I like it but I know mr trampledamage wants me to get a proper replacement at some point!

You could always trade in the kids against a new one thus curing both dilemmas :vulcan:

I didn't pick out my engagement ring, but then again, I kind of did. Here's how it happened:
Mr. JustKate was in the Marines when we first met, and he was sent on what's called a "WesPac float" - a cruise on a naval vessel in the Pacific. He knew he would be going to Hong Kong, and he knew Hong Kong was a great place to buy gemstones, so he asked me what I'd like, and I said "An emerald! Oooh, oooh, oooh, please - an emerald! Ooh, ooh, ooh!" And so he picked out this really beautiful emerald - far prettier and larger than we could ever have afforded here in the States.

Scroll forward a couple of years when we officially got engaged, he asked me about an engagement ring, and I had to say that no ring could possibly mean more to me or be more beautiful than my beloved emerald. So we just decided that emerald was my engagement ring, and that's what I think of it as today. I wear it with a plain gold band (I adore the symbolism of a plain gold band - plus it's so practical and pretty at the same time), and then a few years ago, he got me a beautiful and dainty anniversary band of itty-bitty emeralds and diamonds, so I wear all three. Fortunately, I have long fingers.

I've been wearing this emerald for more than 25 years now (we've been married 22 years), and I still like looking at it. I'm such a girl. So I don't think you ever really get over the pleasure of looking at a beautiful and beloved piece of jewelry.

Some days... :shifty:

Yup, I have had lots of 'some days' here in Mayville. I've threatened to sell my two rascals to gypsies at least once.

Then I had to explain who gypsies were. :vulcan:

I would have loved to be surprised by Mr. May with an engagement ring, but he insisted we get one that I liked (and in his budget ;) ). So we went shopping together. And that was a rather romantic shopping trip, but everything was romantic then, kwim?

Seriously, if you love ring, and more importantly, if you love the man who gave you the ring, how the ring was chosen is really not important.

Congratulations, K'ehleyr! :)

OK, interrupting the rings for a moment to have a little whine..

Im going on a diet today. Now.
Who else is sharing the misery?

Poor thing. :(

The "eating all healthy" or the "no more sweets" variety?

I have just finished The Embargo, no more chocolate, chips, or coke for a month. I felt fantastic. Felt even better after I had my first bite of chocolate, though.

Who else is sharing the misery?

*Raises hand*

I have sworn off McD's, KFC, sugary juices, and alcohol... they had made me go up two sizes in the past two years. Bastards. On the wagon (mostly), for 3 weeks now... I would like to kill myself shortly.

A whole month? :D awesome. GOod for you.

Weightwatchers actually.. since I am a member there since so many years and paying every month lol (although just for internetaccess.. I have not stepped on a scale in months).. So I am allowed sweets if I have the points for it. I am going to try to cut down on my soda though.. freaking thing spins me into eating sugar..
My big problem is that I love baking.. and no matter how "little" one sticks to tasting it, it is always still a little too much than allowed. But I wont quit baking.. just will choose my moments a little more.

I was off candy for a month just a little while ago, but I got too obsessive about eating other things, so I actually GAINED weight. Wohoe. not.

An officer, I am sure you look lovely anyways, but I can surely understand where you are coming from. You have seen me.. since then I had lost a lot of weight.. but now it has slowly crept back on! GRRRR...

Such is a woman's life, eh?

Whether you gained or lost Aurian, your cuteness cannot be lost because it comes from inside. :)

Thanks. :)
I just bit into a banana when the craving came back. Not the best substitute, but having a set date which I wanted to reach really helped.

Soda really is evil. A friend of mine also participated in The Embargo and she used to drink several bottles of soda a day. She drank only water in that time and she said that once she got over the withdrawal symptoms she actually couldn't stand so much soda anymore.

Chossing moments for baking sounds like a plan. Why should we give up what makes life enjoyable just to lose a few pounds. Being thin only has so many advantages, automatic joy isn't one of them.

Good luck, anyway. :)

Thanks :) Yeah, I really need to kick that stupid diet coke habit.. but i am such an addict it is not even fun. But so far so good.. it is 3 PM and I am still behaving..

I know what you mean by addict.
I haven't had any chocolate for the last couple of days, so when I bit into a little chunk my body immediately started getting all funny and demanded more, MORE, MORE!

First day of soda withdrawal, it's going to be tough. But as soon as you have the first two days behind you, it'll get a lot easier. You are halfway there. :techman:

No diet for me but...I'm exercising. Regularly. Boooooooorrrrring! Actually, it's not boring (or at least it's not "boooooooorrrrring") right now, but that's because the long days make it possible for me to get my exercise by walking, and I quite like walking. It's hard to get my butt up off the couch, but once I do and get into my walking clothes, I enjoy it. And I've lost 20 pounds, yay!

But once the days shorten up, I'm going to have to return to (dumm dumm DUMMMM!) the Dreaded Treadmill. I hate that thing. Not as much as I hate the StairMaster, but pretty close.

And if that doesn't work, I'm going to have to start counting calories or points or whatever, and I find that just too, too dreary. So best of luck to all of you who are calorie-counting. You have my sympathy and my respect.

That's a lovely story, a ring should have a story :)

Thank you :) And I do love both ~ the ring because it's old, unique and beautiful and the man because he's old, unique and ... ;)

Good luck Aurian.
It's the alcohol that does it for me too Officer, I gave up for 3 months last year and got into some seriously skinny jeans. Now I haven't been as rigid I'm finding I have a smaller selection of clothes
I can just take so much herbal tea before I need a drink

Now you know why I've suddenly become obsessed with vanilla teas and green teas and such... the Bellinis were killing me - I used to buy a bottle of sparkling chardonnay a few times a week, topped off with very sweet pineapple peach and passionfruit juice (no added sugar, but the fruit is naturally very sweet especially when concentrated)... to die for delicious , and yes that's exactly what happened - it killed my figure!

I haven't touched a single drop of booze in 3 weeks, and I've dropped an entire size, that's with no extra exercise at all. Alcohol has the same calories as eating pure fat, and I was doing that on an almost daily basis. I feel very stuffy and unexciting being teetotal, but I am enjoying having a bounce in my step again. I don't miss it one bit.
