Atheist Club. Begin.

I tried in my high school to start an atheist club, but never got the chance.
So here is my chance, welcome to trekbb's atheist club.
Come introduce yourself, you can be atheist, non-believer.
Come let of steam about issues you can't talk about else-where.
talk about your troubles, maybe you want to tell your family and you feel you can't.
You have as much right to be an atheist as I do to be a Christian. In my experience, the only difference is that I do not ridicule someone who is an atheist; however, every atheist I have known spends much time ridiculing those who believe in GOD. Hopefully, you are not one of them.:techman:

:vulcan: IDIC, y'all. :vulcan:

Right, and I have said for the most part I don't mind religion.
I had a problem with religious people. I can count on all my hands and toes the expirences I have had being ridiculed for being an atheist. Its the chrisitians that picked and bullied and harrassed me. It was also the chrisitian administrators who didn't do anything when I came to them for help. I mean have you seen on youtube the extremes churches go through to post videos of why I am a morally and ethically bad person, and that my way is wrong.
So I don't ridicule others, I have gotten into intelligent conversations(debates). But its not like either side sits down and leave each other alone. Trust me Its not one sided here.

I've mentioned it before in the thread, but as an Atheist I don't really see the point in proselytizing people (except maybe pointless arguing for entertainment value). Everyone already has all the information they need to become an Atheist. We've all been exposed to doctrine, just some of us choose not to believe in it.

Of course on the other hand I am not personally offended by people who hold religious beliefs. Religious organizations on the other hand, some of those I find offensive. Individual religious people though, not so much.

Right, like the baptist church that goes around to funerals and holds up hate signs.

I've been reading the thread but not commenting because I'm not your demographic but I wanted to say I agree with this. I've had faith without religion for a long time because of my lack of trust with organised religions.

Life can be tough for some of them. Some don't want to do anything but just live life and if they end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, they could get into it with someone when they don't want to.

i only ever really believed in God during the early years of my life when i was a naive credulous child who believed everything he was told or read. you know, like 'pull that face and when the wind changes you'll get stuck like it' or that GI Joe was real or that there really were monsters in the closet.

once i got a bit older and gained more awareness of the differences between reality and fiction, i sat down and thought it over and decided the Bible was full of crap and i'd stick with science, thanks.

Exactly, they'd be number 1 on my list (and everyone else's I assume).

Just look around TBBS, or even just this thread. There are plenty of atheists who don't ridicule people with faith.

Thank you kestra. She's right. I mean you can't be religious come into an atheist thread and say that we are wrong and not expect to be corrected. On the other hand if your nice we're nice.

See, your problem there is that you are comparing one person against a non-random sample of people, which is silly. If you were to compare a random group of people on your side of the argument with a random group of people on our side of the argument, the proportion of assholes in either group will be roughly the same.

Neither do I.
There is nothing really irritating about Dawkins.
What I find amusing about his demeanour and voice is that he seems to conform to the stereotype of the kindly English vicar, even though he may be a firebrand with the written word.

Definitely not going in the direction I wished, there seems to be religious people in my thread. While I don't mind them, this is a members only club, atleast its supposed to be.

I don't think there's anything wrong with that. It would get boring if everyone talked about the same thing all the time.
