Assassin's Creed TV Series In The Works

Ubisoft has announced that they plan on continuing their expansion of the Assassin's Creed universe with a TV series. I didn't get a chance to see the movie, but after the way it bombed I have to wonder if there's enough interest in the franchise to sustain a TV series. I'm a huge fan of the games, so I would love to see the franchise find success outside of them, but I just don't know if it'll happen. I guess there have been times where an unsuccessful movie has lead to a successful TV series, so it's not impossible, but it still seems unlikely to me.

That movie felt like it was written by someone who had only played the very first game, way back when, and was regurgitating what he only-half remembered, changing the names/setting just enough to make it seem like a new story. I don't think Ubisoft had much, if any, control over its development. Certainly not over the horrible marketing (Kanye West in the trailer? Really??). If it can't have better oversight/quality control over the series, it will bomb just as hard.

I've always felt that if the series had to have an extension beyond the games, that a TV series would work best, specifically on the mentor/student angle that could be explored further.
