Assassin's Creed sucks

I just finished Brotherhood as well - really good game - though I thought the AC2 ending was a much better WTF moment.

The last memory sequence in ACB was pretty awfully executed, but other than that, I liked the game as much as AC2.

I'm going to be the sole dissenter here and say that AC2 was a shit game too, not just AC1.

I played all 30 hours of AC2 and still didn't feel like I had ANY control over Ezio, who decided to jump off a wall plummeting to his death more times than I could count. Whoever thought contextual controls for primary movements was a good idea should have his balls lopped off and fed to him--contextual controls like this just don't work, period. Don't even get me started on the sideways wall climb mechanic that was introduced solely for the final glyph and used nowhere else in the game--I almost stopped playing right then and there but was so close to the end of this POS that I felt compelled to finish it.

I also got ACB for Christmas but I'm getting rid of it without opening it since AC2 left such a bad taste in my mouth. I really wanted to like this game but the controls were pure shit.

If you hated AC2, you're probably not going to like AssCBro. It's basically a full length extension pack with a few changes.

Yeah, some people just can't get the hang of the controls. I love them, but I can definitely see how you can hate them if they don't work for you. Like Mr. Light said, if you hated 2, you'll hate B.

Started on Assassin's Creed II - and wow, what an improvement! (and I say that as someone who really liked the first game)

Seriously? I played the game, too, and what you say is close to bullshit, sorry to say that.

Are you saying I didn't play the game? Check the link my sig--I managed to get most of the game's achievements.

If you're saying the game's controls work well, that's your opinion, just like mine is that they're complete shit.

The controls (which are pretty much the same as in AC1) work fine for me *most* of the time - *except* when you're in a free-run chase, trying to catch somebody. Then Ezio tends to jump off at random angles as you try to change direction while free running. It pretty much makes it not worth the bother chasing pickpockets, and makes a couple of the assassinations infuriatingly frustrating as well.

But it's still a fantastic game, IMO - the improvements from the original more than make up for it. (Oh, yeah, though Ezio also still has an annoying tendency to stop and hang over an edge whem you want him to jump off it, just as Altair did in AC1)

I think maybe the difference between thinking "they work" and "they're shit" probably depends on whether you played the first game first and got the hang of them - at which point you're more likely to have noticed the improvements more.

But if you didn't like AC2, do not *ever* try AC1, cos, it's lot more shit in comparison... (and I say that someone who loves it!)

I was interested in the game, but the fighting was what turned me off. If it was easier to hack and slash my way through the enemies then I would have really enjoyed this game.

360 and like I said, I had no problem at all with the controls (other than the fact that Ezio does seem to like to jump in random directions when you're chasing someone down).

Honestly, combat is one of the easiest bits of the game. The counterattack is basically a "win" button and the flowing kill streak thing introduced in Brotherhood makes it even easier.

I agree chase scenes were extremely difficult sometimes since you had to perform the route perfectly without a single "whoopsie".

But yeah once you understand the rhythm of the game combat is extremely easy for the most part. You just counterattack when they swing. Of course several times I would inexplicably find myself out of sync and get my ass kicked :p

I think that's an issue with the software keeping up with the game - if (in either AC1 or 2) you're surrounded by more than about five guards, the combat buttons stop working, so you're holding RT, a guard starts towards your character, you hit the dodge or counter button - and your guy just stands there and lets the guard hit him three or four times...

It happens often enough to have you swear at the screen, but not enough to really make you lose the fight.

I find it strange that I don't have these problems. The 360 version can't be that different to the PS3 version, can it?

Yeah, sometimes I jump to death when I actually want to jump to the next building, but not very often. Hunting down Borgia messengers and thiefs on the rooftops is great fun. And the combat system is awesome, in my opinion. You always fight the guy who is targeted, and you can switch the targets with the left stick. Disarming and counter attacking is easy, too. The more you train in Monteriggioni, the easier it gets for the character to tackle more difficult enemies, too.

The only problem I had was the sideways jumping technique you learn in the last Assassin tomb. That took a while until it worked properly.
