Assassin's Creed Revelations

Sweet. :) But I haven't played the first three yet. :(

In somewhat related news, Assassins Creed Lineage will be released on dvd at the end of August.

Not played Brotherhood yet though I plan to get it for the PS3 soon but I expect that not being a numbered title that the actual story of the franchise won't get finished...AC is starting to feel like the LOST of video games, questions and no answers :p

Each game in the series has been an improvement so far (although Brotherhood wasn't anywhere near the leap in quality that 2 was) so I'm interested. I really don't care about the story, at least not Desmond's story, so I just hope that they keep the gameplay fun and set it some place that's interesting. Renaissance Italy has been played out, I'm not too interested in going back to the crusades, so I'm hoping for revolutionary Paris.

A co worker gave me his copy of AC Brotherhood because he sold his XBOX 360 and I played it for about 1/2 hour and went and traded it in at Gamestop. I just can't get past the fact that the fighting controls suck.

I find the fighting controls pretty easy to work with, though I've heard others make the same complaint. My biggest control problem tends to be with jumping in odd directions sometimes.

I love the games though and am excited for this. Have been trying to find a copy of either of the two AC games for DS, but haven't been able to find either in this city. Anyone know if they're worth the time?

The controls are fluid, by which I mean that they can go all over the place if you're not careful. But if you can get a handle on them, they flow very well.

I just can't get past the fact that the fighting controls suck.
They're not so bad, just hold down the right trigger to defend yourself, wait for someone to attack you and hit X, that should cause an instant kill 90% of the time. The other 10% you either have to disarm them or kick 'em in the gonads.

Besides, the thrill of Assassin's Creed is to not get into so many sword-fights but to kill your opponents without them knowing that you're there. Sneak up on them with your hidden blade, strike them with your crossbow from across the street, use your assassins to cause a deadly arrow strike that kills a whole group of guards. I don't normally like stealth games, but AC manages to get it just right in my opinion.

The latest update on Ubi's AC facebook page shows the hagia Sofia mosque - may be the rise of the Ottoman Empire from Byzantium/Constatinople...

Ezio is the main character, with Altair making an appearance.

I don't know what to think. I like Ezio more than Altair, but I'm ready to move on to a new character. At least this time the game will move out of Italy, so the world wont seem as much of a rethread as Brotherhood did.

Eazio trilogy, well so much for the original plan for AC with new lead characters, not played Brotherhood yet but does Ezio really need a trilogy?

Brotherhood's story is kinda tacked on. AC2 was about a young man seeking revenge and uncovering a devious conspiracy that spanned several cities, while Brotherhood's story was just about bringing down a powerful political dynasty in one city. Gameplay wise, Brotherhood is better, but AC2's story was more epic.

Taking a wild stab in the dark, I'm guessing that Revelations will have Ezio going to Constantinople to find something that Altair mentioned in his writings and the parts of the game where we play Altair will be similar to the Christina missions in Brotherhood. But I really have no idea.

Looks like 'Revelations' is more backstory for us (and, really, for Ezio fans) than the 'next chapter in the Desmond plot'. I'm not really sure how they'll move Desmond along for a few days more, considering how little time they have left...

Since Ezio's going to be 50 in it, it means I can feel OK doing the costume for Redemption 13 (when I'll be 44)...

I'm a huge fan of the AC games, and I really enjoyed the stories in AC2 and AC:B so I'm really glad to get a conclusion to Ezio's story. If anyone is interested there's a big cover story for this in Game Informer. In the story they talk alot about a new gadget called the hookblade which will allow you to use ziplines to get through the city, and it's also supposed to add alot of new abilities to combat. It also sounds like they're moivng away from the Borgias and will be dealing pretty much entirely with new characters in Constantinople.

Well, since the Borgias had nothing to do with Constantinople, I should hope not.

It's good, but it's barely a step-up from Brotherhood at all and there's fewer side-missions. Constantinople is a great city, I think it's the best in the series so far, the story is more interesting than AC:B, but not at good as AC2. The hook-blade is great fun, I used it a lot more than I thought I would. The den defence mini-game is crappy, but it can be avoided if you use you keep your notoriety down. The Desmond missions are cool in concept but clunky in execution, and a poor substitute for the fun puzzles in the previous two games.

I disliked AC1 so I couldn't care less about Altair being in this game, but I must admit that his missions were a highlight and the final memory sequence was very touching.

Gameplay-wise, I agree that it's the probably the best. I do miss some of the vistas we could scale in earlier games, but if that's the price I pay for 90% of the map being available as early as Sequence 3 I'll take it. ;) The tombs were actually fun this time (better design - there's only one place where Ezio had to kick down a latter for in case he falls). And they fixed countering so it's effective again, unlike Brotherhood.

But the story was disappointing - it was shorter than Brotherhood (probably longer than AC1, though), and rather lacking in revelations.
