Assassin's Creed Odyssey: It's all Greek to me...

Looks amazing. I'm still only about halfway through Origins though. There's just so much to do. I've got a whole stack of PS4 games that I've barely gotten around to now because AC:Origins took over my life.

Yeah, the first time I saw the Origins map, I was overwhelmed. I have to hand it to the devs; it feels accurate. There's lots of expanse, but they've managed to squeeze in a lot of interesting stuff everywhere, to the point that it feels very organic and lived-in. And it never feels too big and everything has purpose.

IGN has posted a couple articles about Odyssey the last few days.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey: (Re)bulidng Athens - Features a couple of members of the creative team talking about how they build their versions of Athens. It also includes a video showing off some of the city's major locations. This really is a gorgeous game.
How Assassin's Creed Odyssey is Redesigning Naval Combat - Discusses how the naval combat in Odyssey is different from Black Flag's.
They've also released a 12 minute video showing a mission you go on for Hippokrates.
One thing I'm noticing that I'm already loving, is the fact that the game is actually bright and colorful. It's sad how rare that is in pretty much all visual media this days.

You know what's super shitty?

Stating that Kassandra is the "canonical" main character, yet using Alexios in all of your marketing material.

Whack. Suuuuper whack.

I didn't realize they said Kassandra was the canonical main character.
I have been disappointed we haven't actually seen her in any marketing so far.
I already plan on playing at least my first play through as her.

Reminds me of how in Syndicate they made a big deal about you being able to play a female Assassin but Jacob was far more prominent in the marketing than Evie (and the game too, IIRC).

They've announced the post-launch DLC content for AC: Odyssey.
The paid content will include two new story arcs, Legacy of the First Blade, which will follow the first person to wield the First Blade, and The Fate of Atlantis, which will include "godly creatures" and deal with the sunken city. It will also include remasters of both ACIII, and AC: Liberation. The ACIII remasterw ill include all of it's DLC stuff.
There will also be free content include two "episode quest lines", new mercenaries, contracts, mythological creatures, New Game +, and a Discovery Tour like the one in AC: origins.

Everything I've seen about this game has me excited (although not as excited as I am for Red Dead II, which I'm going to play Odyssey after I finish it). ACIII as part of the season pass I'm "meh" about, but it's cool they're throwing in Liberation too as it's one of two AC games I haven't played (I also didn't play Rogue)

I've played a couple of them ( Black Flag being the one i played the most) and honestly, while that future aspect and the battle between Templars and Assassins were a cool twist when i initially played AC for the first time, i really don't remember much about the entire overall metastory and i don't really care.

What hooks me is the gameplay itself, the grandiose vistas when you are crouching on some high tower or building (how awesome is it to climb Notre Dame and look over Revolution era Paris, especially if you once stood in front of the real building).

However i do agree that the release schedule is way too fast for games this expansive. Maybe the student gaming crowd is ok with it but as a working guy who also has other interests finishing such a huge game sometimes takes quite a while.

Steam had a sale going on this weekend but i passed since i really don't have the time for all of these (and would also need to buy a console type controller for my PC since playing AC on a keyboard would just be ughh.. )

Edit:

I love how you practically have to shanghai your ship Lieutenants by knocking them out so they are "pacified".. imagine someone sneaking up on you, whooping your ass and then offering you a job :D

Also a funny note is how you can jump into the see and dive with full bronze armor and greaves AND weapons yet still not sink directly to the ocean floor.

It's just funny to me, doesn't take away from the game in the slightest but sometimes i really would like to sit in with the developers and ask these tongue in cheek questions until they tell me to get lost :D

Looks okay but the choice thing bothers me. Sounds like too much of a distraction.
Plus there is the fact that you're not a Assassin in this.
Getting a remaster of ACIII is good though. That was the last AC game that mattered.

Rogue was quite good. It's the Templar version of Black Flag. Same open-world sailing system, but this time in the Northern Arctic. That one got a remaster not too long ago, I believe.
I may have to check it out. I avoided it because I played Unity first and it soured Assassin's Creed for me for the year. I was hesitant to pick up Syndicate the next year, but I'm glad I did!

Yeah, the ironic thing is, while Unity was the first game in the series for the current gen, Rogue was initially developed as a last-gen offering and ended up being the better game of the two. It kind of makes me wish another game in the series would explore the Templar angle.

I look forward it, it'll add a nice bit of variety to things you do.

I don't think this is really making that much a difference in the gameplay, it looks like you're pretty much doing the same kind of stuff you usually do, you just aren't being called an assassin while you're doing it.

How so?

It was a continuation of the main arc started in the first one. The ones since then have been just going through the motions.

You're not even the 1st Assassin...
Or the 1st to use the hidden blade, he shows up in story-DLC...
But the game looks great and if the story is good, i'm fine with it...

I loved AC: Origins, but I'm going to wait a bit for this one as I plan on getting RDR first. Seems like October's a good month for some big releases. Two huge open-world games in the span of a few weeks? Going to need some extra time on my hands :D

Just be glad some games changed their release dates after Rockstar announced the release date for RDR2...
