Aspiring writers?

This reminds me of very brash and very young art critics who see some of Picasso's wilder stuff and say, "Are you kiddin' me? I could do that!"

As did most of Australia when our government bought Jackson Pollock's "Blue Poles" in the 70s. It's worth a lot more now. :rommie:

I'm a school librarian. Have been since 1989. Before that I was an elementary (primary) teacher. I spend a lot of time reading amazing, deceptively simple, kids' picture books that can tell a story with very few words. The level of interplay between the pictures and text is one thing, but how the author selects just the right words to convey a story is a skill that is really hard to emulate. (I know. I've tried.)

So many people boast, "That's so easy, anyone could do it." And again, it's not easy when you actually try and do it.

Both are pretty much exactly as you might imagine, strangely.

:guffaw:

Why would he pick such an obvious house? Doe he want people to stalk him?

I was thinking of a story that involves an actual canon character a few days ago and came up with a pretty good one.

No, it's far too detailed and specific to just be a discussion of scenarios, and violates board rules. You should edit the post, or I imagine the mods will do so for you.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Trent's right. For legal reasons, we pro authors cannot read unsolicited story ideas. If you want to talk about your idea for a specific story you have in mind, it should be discussed in the Fan Fiction forum.

msbae, I know your intentions are honorable, but Turtletrekker, Trent and Christopher are correct: This isn't the place to post this kind of information. However, I recommend taking your ideas to the Fan Fiction forum.

Really? I just assumed it was a precaution against people later claiming their ideas were stolen by someone on the board.

Therin's right. It's a legal issue because we need to avoid the risk of getting embroiled in a plagiarism lawsuit. Even a totally false claim of plagiarism is expensive and time-consuming to fight off, so we have to be extra-careful to avoid any situation that could create even the vague impression that we might have stolen someone else's idea.

Yeah, that makes perfect sense. Especially in an age of so many frivolous lawsuits.

Well, it looks like someone already edited the post anyway. I have so many ideas that I honestly wouldn't care if one of the professionals came up with something similar. Ideas are easy to come by anyway.

Anyone actually read the post before it was edited? Do I have an idea worth pursuing or should I go with something else?

Again, I recommend posting in the Fan Fiction forum if you want feedback. This isn't the forum to be asking for such feedback.
