Ashes to Ashes Series 3 (may contain Spoilers)

It's the Gene Hunt verse because it's basically wishfulment fantasy for his character after all. First he gets a best mate and then he hooks up with a hot girl.

I mean, what a miserable imagination you must have if you are Ray and the best you can come up with is being the sad subordinate of a mean spirited drunkard whose only way to get off is to blackmail twins into a couple of handjobs.

I have great faith in the writing of this show. I can't say I've ever been let down by a single episode yet. I do wonder if they will be able to top the perfection of the Life on Mars Ending. That is one of the great finales of all time if you ask me.

it is good that the BBC has told the shows producers in advance that S3 is the last, so they could write a proper ending, as seems to be happening.

I do wonder if Ashes to Ashes changed what they had planned, putting a 2nd person in the same sitution raises alot more questions than if it was just limited to Life on Mars.

^I think it's the other way round. The plan was for Life on Mars to be 3 series but it took it's toll on John Simm being in every scene and he didn't want to do a third series. So I figure 3 series of Ashes was the plan from the start too, and they seem to have tweaked it so Keeley doesn't need to be in every scene so it's not quite as tiring for her.

Unfortunately I didn't, haven't had Sky in years. IMDb has fairly middle of the road reviews but it's rated quite highly on Amazon.

I meant I don't think it was the BBC telling them that 3 was the last one, I think it was the other way around.

I doubt Ashes to Ashes was on the cards until they couldn't complete their plans for Life on Mars.

Well only just managed to see episode 2. Looking good so far, although given the cliffhanger at the end of S2 I really was expecting something more left field rather than a very quick return to the status quo. While I don't think you could do a series on Hunt in 2010 (lets face it he'd end up behind bars) it might have been fun to do one episode with Hunt in Drake's world. Then again who knows, maybe that's coming?

Liked episode 2; fantastic opening scene, and I thought it was a good Shaz episode. Wondering just why we got such a surreal shot of her at the end though?

Those masked youths running rampant through the street, didn't they used to be called Steamers? A kinda unique 80's phenom that seemed to vanish as quickly as they appeared.

I just got around to watching the first two episodes myself. Agreed with those saying the first one wasn't as good as it could have been (though still enjoyable), but the second one was killer (pardon the pun). Also wondering what was up with the "Girl with the mousy hair" snippet from "Life On Mars?" that we heard. Interesting, and I can't lie—it kind of gave me chills.

And the "Uptown Girl" opening had me in stitches.

Thanks, I had meant to Google him. It was Hustle I'd seen him in...and not that long ago either.

For some reason I thought a similar character had been in Life on Mars.

I'm starting to see a pattern here. Second episode had a spotlight on Shaz and her emotional struggle with the job and this week's episode had a spotlight on Ray and his emotional struggle with the job. And near the end of both episodes, Ray and Shaz have a moment in which they look directly in the camera, with the background darkened and the Life on Mars song being played briefly. Something is going on here and it seems to be infleuncing Ray and Shaz to a degree. I think Chris is next by the look of the promo of next week's episode which Chris plays a role in.
