Ashes to Ashes Series 3 (may contain Spoilers)

No idea how Gene created the world that he did, but he can't leave. He keeps himself there by obligation. His mind created the world and I assume that should he ever leave it, it would cease to be.

So is Gene dead, like the rest of them? Or (assuming he's not literally God, in the same way that Keats is Satan) is he some kind of guardian angel?

If there is a god in here, I think it's Nelson. Which sounds like exactly the sort of religion I can get behind. :D

Hmm. Well I'm sure the pub is a nice place but I don't know if I'd want to spend eternity there! :D

I don't know if they will be spending eternity in the RA.

When Bolly closes the door, her silhouette is seen behind the smoked glass. Then there was a subtle flash and then her silhouette was gone.

..But what a great finale. As much as I hate to say it, it topped BSG's ending for me.

I dig the idea of The Guv being the redeemer of lost coppers souls in an eternal struggle with Keats.

Glenister's portrayal of Gene in this was brilliant. At one moment lost, beaten and disenchanted, then knowing that Keats can only promote and suggest, he becomes strong-willed and, well, "Guv Mark II"-like. Gene's thumping of Keats was great.

"A word in your shell-like, pal."

Long live The Guv.

brilliant ending to a pair of brilliant series.

Nelson was either God or St Peter - the latter seeming a better fit since he was at the door to Heaven...

Brilliant. Absolutely spot on, even though I'd guessed Fenchurch was some kind of purgatory. Can't beleive Jim was essentially satan!! Tiny bit of over acting at the end there but I'll forgive him!

And I love how the reason Gene is the way he is is because he's essentially a young man who never got to grow up! Jim's right, it really does all make sense!

Shame Alex doesn't get to go hom, but that was a bit of a surprise.

"I'm arresting you for the murder of my car!" Oh well, looks like he'll get a merc next ;)

Anyway, great end to a great series.

That was a rather dark but enjoyable ending. Some people guessed here that Gene was in the grave or did they read spoilers before?
There's an interesting line I think of in season 2 "noboy knows anyone, not really", said by Gene himself. Sad way to end it, Alex had been fighting to get home but was a;ready gone. Sam got home but threw himself off a building. Heavy.

A lot of people here guessed Gene was the dead copper. I've not seen any spoilers for this entire series so I don't know how easy they were to come by.

I personally guessed Gene was the copper around episode 5. Had a feeling deaths would be on the tapes, but not until I saw the final trailers. As for everything else, nope.

Though, the pub is heaven? I can get on board with that.

Yeah, I think a lot of people guessed at Gene, by process of elimination. Who else could it have been realistically? Not Sam because there's no way that Gene would have killed him. Keats didn't feel right, and I just couldn't see it being one of the three (Ray, Chris, Shaz).

Spoilers were incredibly difficult to come by, until last Friday when a leaked ending appeared over at the Railway Arms website. Ultimately, this leaked ending was practically word perfect, so some thunder was stolen, but it was still a great hour of television.

The original cut for the episode was 1 hour 20 minutes. There's a possibility that the uncut version will appear on DVD, either in the season 3 set, or in a complete series set.

Someone posted this to my wall on Facebook.
Don't know if it has any basis in reality or not.

I hope so. Now that Gene remembers who he really is, presents some very interesting possibilities story-wise.

Didn't think it was likely... Still, I'd watch it. Though LOM/A2A are both wrapped up, it made it clear that Gene, was still around, quite possibly for all eternity. So I suppose it's always a possibility somewhere down the line.

Can anybody give me a link to a site that explains what actually happened? I was kind of high when I was watching it and wasn't able to absorb the details.
