As you learn more, does excitement go up or down?

Honestly I gave it a 5 out of 10.
Keaton made a good Batman but a lousy Bruce Wayne. Basinger was set dressing. Nicholson was letting the suit do the work. I actually liked Billy Dee Williams as Dent and thought Michael Gough was the best part of the entire 4-picture franchise.
Anton Furst's production design stole the show, but not always in a good way. Loved the architecture but it was too claustrophobic for me. The cinematography was confusing at times and bad visual effects ruined one of my favorite scenes from the script (Batman among the gargoyles; Daredevil did it right).
Elfman's music was fun and catchy but I still don't know what the hell Prince was doing in there other than being WB's cash-grab tool. I really didn't care for an almost-40 Batman just getting on the scene nor did I appreciate the many firearms in his arsenal. It was contrary to the core of the character. (Machine guns on the Batmobile? Missiles on the Batwing?)
Batman Returns scored half a point higher with me but it was all downhill from there until Nolan showed up.
For me it's a Star Trek movie so I'm excited. It's the one thing making me look forward to another cold winter.

Generally I am optimistic about the film. I think it will be good to have some new Trek, and I think it was ESSENTIAL that the franchise import some new blood to make it happen.
I am happy with the new blood...and so I am hopeful that the film won't suck.
I suspect that there will be more than a few canon violations, and that will drive some folks mad. But unless they are really huge ones, I'm not concerned about that.
I think they have the right objective in mind - to make a good movie.
Which is exactly what this franchise needs, canon or no canon. Because if the next movie bombs, there will likely not BE anymore new canon for a LONG time.

The time-travel does evoke visions of Braga high-concepting away, but still, I look forward to December.

Oh I think its more Abrams none-linear storytelling at work helped by the fact time travel is organic to science fiction.
I'm looking forward to this since it will the first "different" (on almost all counts) Star Trek in a looooooooong time and that along promises to be interesting.

Here's the deal...
If I were wise, I would try to forget all about this movie until about December 20th. I would then go into the movie with average expectations, enjoy the hell out of it, and then forget all about it and go back to my normal life.
Instead, I come here and obsess on every little ridiculous detail that I wouldn't give two shits about until hundreds of other Trekkies lured me into believing how fucking important every bit of nonsense is.
So I come here and learn some tiny new detail, like the color of Spock's shoelaces. I get giddy as a school boy for about fifteen minutes. And then I listen to a bunch of assholes ripping each other a new one because these morons making this film got Spock's shoelaces all wrong.
So then I question my worth as a Star Trek fan and a human being. Then, after a few minutes of that, I decide that Trekkies as a group are an angry, retarded mob. I reject them and the new movie and decide I just don't give a shit anymore. I abandon this place in hopes of a healthier perspective.
Then I hear that some new tidbit is about to be released and I come back here and start the whole damned cycle all over again.
At some point, I need to remind myself that the two hours this movie will occupy will only account for .000317% of my life and that I really should not base too many expectations on how -- good or bad -- this movie will revolutionize my life.
Oh, wait. Is that a new thread about what color Nero's jumpsuit will be on the Nero action figure? "Purple," you say? Gotta go!

Sadly my obsession and excitement over the upcoming movie has been severely blunted by my obsession and excitement over advancing my career, life, and the number of degrees I have.
Then, before this year, there were my three years of post-college Quarterlife Crisis. The last time I was free to act like a Trekkie Trekkie was 2004.
Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to this movie as much now as I was when it was announced in spring of '06.

I don't know what to say... you conveyed the way I feel perfectly! I can honestly say that this is the best post I have ever read on these boards. You totally captured the way that I have felt since the summer of 2006! It is nice to know that I am not the only one who feels this way. It is good to know that I am not the only fan who "gets mad and glad" about this movie whenever a new piece of news pops up :thumbsup:
