Do you think we'll ever get to that point where we can have a fully self contained prosthetic that functions similar or the same as the mark one organic eye that nature gave most of us?

I wonder what the legal implications of that would be too, would they count as an eye or a camera, could you be flagged by security at an airport or secure building?

Visual prosthetics is a field of research.

Once they get near to SD TV resolution, I guess they need to think about the legislative aspects in each country where this technology is available.

I know it is a field of research and near and dear to my heart. I long for the day when we get a proper prosthetic though that doesn't need glasses or an external bit stuck on your head

I do think that will come eventually, but like all such things, the speed depends on the amount of money available to fund the research. Nanotechnology might be able fix injuries or genetic causes directly as well as provide prosthetic solutions. However, like fusion power, it's a lot more difficult to exploit than was originally promised.

I like this reply. It's very true too
