Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths to be 5-Part Crossover

He also had a terrible experience filming the final crossover. I think that pretty much killed any passion he had left for playing the character.

I'm very out of touch/behind on the arrowverse - what was the bad experience?

He said that because of the compacted and chaotic shooting schedule, he ended up shooting his death scene alone without the other actors around him to act out the scene, and that it took too long to shoot in between cuts and people getting pulled to shoot their own shows. I don't think he liked having to spend hours getting up and lying back down filming a death scene by himself.

Didn't it also seem like he wasn't happy with the decision to end Arrow?

IIRC I think it was a mutual decision to the end the series; I recall reading something about him and the producers talking about it and deciding it was the right time to end it. He might have even been the one suggesting to end it. I don't remember the exact details, it was a while ago that I read this.

I don't know, I mean I get why he was upset about the death scene thing. Symbolically, should they maybe have tried harder to get everyone together to film it? Sure.

But he has to know how these things work, I mean he's been shooting these things for a few years now. The crossover is the hardest part of the season to shoot. His series was the only one that ended at 10 episodes, so he had the advantage of basically filming the crossover and being done with everything. The rest of the shows had to film the rest of their seasons on schedule, so it's understandable that they were pulling the other actors in and out between their own shows and the crossover.

It seems that Amell wanted out, and basically did the last season for the $$:
Elsewhere during the in-depth and always illuminating Inside of You podcast Q&A, Amell confirmed that he was “ready to move on” ahead of Arrow Season 7 “and then I got the proverbial ‘offer that I couldn’t refuse.’ They say, ‘Well, you’ll have to shoot 22 episodes with us [for Season 7]… which is July through April. Are you really telling us you want to do 22 at Price X and finish in April, and not do 32 at this price, and be done in October?’ Because if you’re renegotiating, they change your episodic fee. I looked at it, and it would have been fiscally irresponsible for me to say no. Just fiscally irresponsible. I loved the s–t out of Season 8, I had a blast, but I was there for the money. More so than I had ever been.”

The article also has details about the death scene issues you were talking about.

Stephen Amell has said that he will not be making any appearances on the other Arrowverse shows, and that he is "done". I had thought there might be a pretty good chance we'd see him pop up somewhere, but I guess not.
He will if/when:

- He likes the story he's pitched by the Producers of whatever shows want to use his 'Spectre' or "Oliver' character.

- The money is right. ;)

It's always "Never again..." until it's "Hey, I'm back..." <--- Just ask Sean Connery, Robert Downey Jr. and Patrick Stewart. ;)

Yeah, just give it some time. Amell deserves the chance to decompress, and it would cheapen Oliver's sacrifice if he started showing up so soon afterward. The franchise isn't going anywhere (provided that TV production ever starts up again). There's plenty of time.
