That kind of makes it worse. So all this time when you had Wilson and the Mirikuru army, the league of assassins, and Damian Darkh, you had this super secret group that was supposed to be more powerful (or legendary) than those other groups. What makes them legendary? Why should I care about these people who so far are only there to do Diaz bidding? I think that's the worst thing about having Diaz back for another year. We know his story, yet he won't go away. Of everything we have seen in this show, it's a big bully that gets the extra season treatment? Now if Diaz were gone and we got introduced to these Hunter people and that story starts to build into legendary status, I could maybe get behind it. Right now, I watch this series, and they might as well change the name of the series from Arrow to Prison Break because it doesn't feel like Arrow at all.
I like Diaz. I like the actor playing him, however the show hasn't justified why he's this uber threat. Prometheus, Dark Archer, Deathstroke, Ra's Al Ghul, Talia, Damian Darkh, if they were as prominent big bads for two seasons like Diaz is now, I could get that. The character isn't as compelling as some of the previous big bads. It's unfortunate that the show wasted China White, Count Vertigo, Murmur, The Queen, Ravager, Komodo, Drakon, Deathbolt, Royal Flush Gang, Edward Fyers, Wintergreen, Kovar, Baron Reiter (who should've been Benatu Eshu as a nice tie-in to the Vixen cartoon), Al-Owal (the actor would've made for a better Ra's Al Ghul than we got), Ruve Adams, Cyrus Broderick, The Quadrant, Discord, Calculator, Clock King, Onyx Adams, to a lesser extent Brother Blood, Nyssa, Grant Wilson, Cupid, and Brick, and decided to hang their hat on Diaz instead. Even Tobias Church (who should've been Brick) was more interesting to watch than Diaz has been. It was a shame they killed him off so quickly. The number of good to great villains they've misused is astounding over the last seven years. Some of these were season or multiple season long challenges.
They went for the misdirection in Season 6 with spending so much time building up Cayden James (who could've been an awesome Calculator, Clock King, or Cluemaster), but when the switch happened, I just didn't find it that believable that Diaz was the real threat all along. And it took too long for him to get his origin episode-which I did like. I wish he had been a member or leader of the Quadrant all along to solidify him as a real threat to Star City and Team Arrow.
