Spoilers Arrow - Season 5

Amell was talking about how important the Black Canary is to Green Arrow lore, and said it wasn't a hallucination, but I'm not sure if it was even hinted at (beyond our assumptions) that it is the exact same Laurel that we lost last year. It seemed vague enough.

If it IS Black Siren, it could stlil completely work.... originally employed by Prometheus, but totally swooning to Ollie's side once she finds out he is alive - if on her Earth, Ollie died at sea, it could have been the trigger for her going darkside. This could be the reverse Artemis; Siren's redemption story, AND the fixing of the BC/Dinah character, as I suggested both last year and after the anniversary episodes stressing of the Laurel/Oliver love story.

I assumed hallucination after seeing this week's Legends of Tomorrow.

It seems seeing dead people is a common theme this year:

Cisco is seeing his dead brother courtesy of Savitar

Heatwave is seeing Captain Cold hallucinations for unexplained reasons, but guilt and alcohol may have something to do with it

And Arrow (assuming now spoiler code needed): Ollie now sees Laurel.

Probably just a coincidence, though.

Hmm. Captain Cold is also supposed to return as a member of the Legion of Doom.

I was expecting to see some of these characters more given the multi-show contracts we heard about but maybe that's coming down the road.

The multi-show contracts may have just been a way to get the actors cheaper per usage. individual contracts for each appearance may have added up more than just getting them to take a packaged deal.

5x10 promo, pretty big spoiler in it so beware:

Ahhh, so it's
Earth 2 Laurel. I'm kind of annoyed they spelled it out so blatantly there, but that's getting to be common these days. I wonder if her escape will come into play on The Flash too since that is where they introduced her?

Yeah,
I'm kinda hoping that since that much is revealed in the trailer there might be a twist there in the actual episode. Hopefully they turn her to the light side by the end of the episode.

I'd assumed that from when she popped up in episode 9 as though characters have come back from the dead before, I didn't think it was going to happen in this case. I do hope she's not a permanent enemy though and does start working with the team again. I don't think Lance needs that conflict going on if she remains an enemy

Yeah, I am hoping for an actual redemption arc, especially if her fall to darkness was losing her Oliver. They just set up laurel as a love interest again in the crossover episodes, and this alternate Canary is a metahuman and can be written more badass and more like her comics counterpart. I really hope this is not just another misdirect / shock finale that will be wasted on the return, like so many others.

I'm officially caught up with Arrow. Laurel's return is just as random as when she died but holy hell that was a terrific mid season finale. Love this theme of legacy this season and how Oliver's legacy is being challenged by Prometheus. If the writers actually do as good a job in the back half of the season as they've done in the front half, this guy might become my favorite villain in the show. I think my only complaint is I don't understand Evelyn's turn. What does she have to gain here other than vengeance for her parents death and Olivers inaction. All that talk about her finding out Oliver was a serial killer feels a bit wasted but I hope she's not completely out of the picture. Also I really wonder if Laurel being back has to do with Flashpoint.

I know you all have talked about this episode a lot since it aired but I'm just excited that my watch of the series has caught me up. Looking forward to seeing how season 5 resumes next week. I just hope the writers don't pull a season 4 and drop the ball.

Edit

I have just seen the extended trailer. I too hope this is a redemption arc of sorts.

I was wondering if the whole reason they did this was so they could turn into a meta with a more accurate version of her powers from the comics.

If they wanted to do that it would have been way easier to retcon Laurel being in Central City(visiting her mother for example) when the STAR Labs explosion happened, and say it took a while for her powers to manifest.
