Arrow - Season 3

Really excited to hear about Devon Aoki and Peter Stormare joining the cast, I really like both of them.
It seems a little odd to me that the first two characters we hear about from the Hong Kong storyline appear to be Japanese.

Just because characters are different to the comics doesn't make them bad, it's good to change things, if everything was very similar to the comics on screen, there would be no surprise, nothing fresh. Count Vertigo on Arrow I thought was great and fits in the show a treat. Same with Deathstroke, his insanity mad it viable for his obsession with Oliver Queen to exist, otherwise it would just be weird.

What makes them bad is that they were just bad characters. Like I said before, I like the Arrow version of merlyn, who is nothing like the comic version. Count vertigo the drug dealer doesn't fit anything. There was no reason to use the name, it was a complete waste. Slade didn't need to be obsessed with Oliver. There can be revenge stories where the person who wants revenge isn't a complete nutjob.

It seems like any criticism always gets met with "just because its different doesn't mean its bad". I'd say that, just because its different doesn't automatically make it a good difference. Arrow has some good changes. Oliver's family was interesting, as was his parents being part of a conspiracy. Giving Oliver partners (Felicia and Diggle) was a great choice. Merlyn is cool, and Oliver's friendship with Slade was interesting. His currently hinted at interactions with Waller in the past, and the upcoming Hong Kong stuff looks like it will be cool. All of this stuff is different from the comics, and they were all good changes.

Arrow did a lot of good things by moving away from the comics. Its also happened to have done some dumb stuff. Vertigo is an annoying drug dealer who really has nothing interesting about him. He's definitely not as interesting as his namesake. Slade as a sane villain who wanted revenge over something Oliver was actually responsible for would have been interesting and made Slade a better villain. Having Slade's revenge be because of something Oliver was actually responsible for would have given Oliver something real to feel guilty over, instead of irrational guilt over a death he didn't cause and couldn't prevent.

Its all opinion in the end, I guess. I like Arrow, even though I feel it missed some good opportunities and make some mistakes in adapting elements. I'm hopeful that Season 3 will be better than season 2, and I'm sure we'll get some good new ideas and at least a few good adaptations of comic elements. I'm just saying tat I don't think the show is above reproach, and like every show its made some mistakes.

I think we'll just have to agree to disagree about Vertigo and Deathstroke. ;)

I wonder if CW still has the Returns suit hanging in the closet. Take off the S. Add an Atom belt and mask, and good to go.

I really never saw Ray as a corporate kind of guy, should prove interesting to see what he thinks about Felicity. Now I need a Ralph Dibny here on the Arrow or over on Flash.

Hal Jordan should show up on both Arrow and the Flash. Hal's best friends are Ollie and Barry.

Just discovered that Diggle's babymama is frickin Harbinger. This show is weird sometimes.

Yeah, I noticed that a couple months ago, about the same time I listened to the Crisis on Infinite Earth's Audio book and noticed that her name wasn't "Harbringer" like I had been saying in my head since I was 11.

But how likely is it that they are going to reference Crisis any time soon?

My only familiarity with The Atom comes from the DC Nation shorts, but I do like Routh.

Shrinking is easy to do special effects wise (Misfits of Science, The Justice League Movie (1998) Land of the Giants.) but it's also so easy that it can seem tacky (Massive plastic puppet hands.) if you try to cut corners.

Exclusive: DC Entertainment Launches New Arrow and The Flash Digital Comics

The showrunners are putting out a digital comic called Arrow: Season 2.5, which takes place between the end of season 2 and the beginning of season 3.

Season 2.5 is being designed to fit seamlessly into the TV series' storyline. "We've tried to put in all the elements that people like about the show, so there will be Oliver and Felicity banter," Guggenheim promises. "We're going to see what's happened to Detective Lance after he collapsed in the season finale. A good chunk of the burning questions left over will get answered in the tie-in comic."

The comic, which features art by Joe Bennett with inks by Jack Jadson, will also set the stage for new elements to be seen on TV. "Particularly towards the latter half of the series, we're going to start introducing characters who you'll see in Season 3," Guggenheim teases. "If everything goes according to plan you'll start to see characters in the comics before they show up on TV."
The first chapter of the digital version will come out on September 1st and the print edition will be available on October 8th.
