Arrow - Season 3

Wow, a Blade Runner theatrical cut ending. Is Felicity a replicant? No, wait, Edward James Olmos was on that other show...

Seriously, pretty bold to end the season with what feels like a series finale, a "Where can they possibly go from here?" ending. But I'm thinking... now that "the Arrow" is effectively dead, does this mean that Ollie will come back as the Green Arrow? That future newspaper page we keep seeing in The Flash confirms that he (or somebody) will go by that name in the future.

Thea looks good as the Speedy Red Arrow, but I have to wonder how Roy's costume fits her daintier frame so well. Or was she delayed in getting into action because she was busy re-tailoring the outfit?

And Lance got the lampshade-hanging job this week. "The whole city's in danger? Must be May." Seriously, I hope they lay off the annual apocalyptic threats to the city next year. It's getting kind of ridiculous.

That is my biggest issue with the show as a whole. Its getting very repetitive. Is H.I.V.E. going to attack Starling City next May? Also how many times has Oliver seemingly quit being The Arrow or left town only to be convinced to come back later?

It is sloppy. All the aerial footage and mattes have to come from somewhere but really, one of the most iconic buildings in the world...

It was weird how much this felt like a series finale, we had Ollie leaving, we dealt with the big threat that's been building for a couple seasons, and Ollie got together with the girl who's been in love with him for years. I wonder where they will go with it next season. I did have to kind of laugh at the clip at the end with Marc Guggenheim telling people to watch next season. I guess they must have decided to reassure people who don't follow the behind the scenes stuff that this wasn't the end since there wasn't a big cliffhanger.

I loved Felicity saving Ollie in the A.T.O.M. suit. Speaking of which, I'm assuming the last scene with Ray and the suit was a set up for him to get his miniaturization powers. I'm thinking they'll make everyone think Ray was killed, and then they'll suddenly zoom in and show him shrunk. I could see that being a great ending for the season premiere.

I loved seeing Thea in the Arsenal/Speedy costume.

So I wonder if that conversation between Diggle and Ollie means we'll finally get a mask or costume of some sort for Diggle. Can anyone think of a comic book identity he could take on?

I was glad they actually still had the others mad at Ollie. I was expecting them to just forgive him once they realized what he was up to.

I'm a big fan of Christopher Heyerdahl going back to Stargate: Atlantis and Sanctuary, so I was disappointed we only got that one brief scene with him.

I was kind of surprised they did actually kill Ra's, I was expecting him to at least make it to the beginning of next season.

I did not expect Malcolm to take over as Ra's al Ghul, I was expecting Ollie to give the role to Nyssa. I wonder if this means the League will no be an issue on the show, or if Malcolm will go back to being a Big Bad for a future season?

Well, in this case, it's a translight -- a large panoramic backdrop lit from behind, usually used to simulate the view outside the windows of a set. Perhaps the Arrow producers inherited a Manhattan-skyline translight from another production and hoped we wouldn't notice the ESB.

That wasn't included on the Hulu version. Fortunately, I still haven't cancelled my DVR program for the series, so I realized I could watch it that way.

Have you seen the Legends of Tomorrow trailer yet?

Not that I can think of. All the names of Green Arrow's male sidekicks have pretty much been used by this point.

I don't particularly mind, since Matt Nable was such a poor excuse for Ra's al Ghul. I wish they'd gotten someone like Alexander Siddig, perhaps.

Agent Liberty perhaps? Or Vigilante?

Mind you I don't know those characters, but a quick google search gave enough backstory to think that Diggle could fit.

The problem with Vigilante is that that label was used for Oliver throughout the first season.

And I don't think Diggle would go for a flashy code name like Agent Liberty. He'd probably prefer something more efficient, like a military call sign.

Come to think of it, his call sign on the Suicide Squad was Freelancer, so he might just go with that.

I agree completely. I think he is the real reason for my feeling of disappointment with the whole storyline. He was so weak as the character it diminished everything. Ra's was more of a threat when he was only mentioned by other characters. That all went flat the second he appeared on screen this season.

Admittedly, though, it did play into the idea that Ra's al Ghul was more the title than the man, and that each new holder of the title was broken down and brainwashed until he conformed to the expectations of the role. So that ultimately any Ra's was more a figurehead of the League than its real master. Although that may change under Malcolm.

The Guardian is also a possible alter ego among fan speculations for Diggle.
Of course they could always think up an original hero identity for him, who knows, might even get translated into the comics.

After seeing Diggle pointing a gun at that League goon and shouting "Where's the virus?", I think his codename should be Bauer.

Amell said the other day that he thinks they're going to make Oliver start being less series and more easy going.

I can see there being a big "rebirth" moment three or four episodes in where he does a total makeover. I'm sure there'll be a costume change--I suspect they'll have him abandon the cloak and hood for the classic sleeveless vest and cap (or at least keep the mask if the hat is too Robin Hoodish).

Yeah. It was clearly altered to fit Holland's body. It seemed like the altered the whole jacket to fit tight like a corset. I think they may have altered the hem too.

That's now my favorite line from the show, just because it's so on-the-nose absurd.

I think he really was Darhk. He's supposedly has the same regenerative properties as Ra's. (Did he build his own hot tub Lazarus machine?) Heyerdahl seems too big of name to waste on two-minute cameo of a henchman.

Besides, it seems like it's his life destiny to play a baddie even every modern DC television property.

I can actually see him taking Ra's from Malcolm and be the "final" Dread Pirate Ra's. He does look a lot like Liam. And, you know, they wouldn't dare use an actor of Asian descent.

Way back when, like between seasons one and two, someone around here brought up the idea that he and his brother were raised by a step-father and took his name and that his real last name is Stewart.

I loved it and still do.

It's almost too perfect. He could call himself the Emerald Knight to pair with Oliver's Archer.

They don't have to do the name change thing even. The franchise is already pretty loose with name swapping as it is. I doubt if anyone would care too much if John Diggle was the stand-in for John Stewart strait up.

John Diggle is not going to secretly revealed to be John Stewart. I have always hated the idea. The producers have confirmed it is not true. They have introduced Diggle as a character into the comics now. It would completely undermine that.

Diggle is one of the great creations of the show. Why does he need to be so called "legitimized" by forcing the name of an existing comic book character on him?

Seconded. Let him be his own thing.

Never heard about Guardian, but that might good codename for Diggle. He is after all a bodyguard. No need to bring anything else from comics. Just the name and maybe that nice helmet type thingy. Too many eye masks already.

Diggle does like to use guns, so maybe gun + shield as weapons. But would golden helmet and shield be too flashy for Diggle? He seems more grounded than that.
