Arrow/Flash Superhero Team-Up Spinoff In Works At CW

So the success of this show is riding on the Atom? Good luck with that.

Err, no, it's riding on Brandon Routh. As well as Victor Garber, Caity Lotz, Wentworth Miller, and Dominic Purcell. Actors are what make TV shows work. The characters are just the material they work with. Felicity Smoak was a minor character in the comics, and her Arrow version was initially just an occasional supporting player who was mainly just a plot device, but Emily Bett Rickards's charm made her a breakout character and the heart of the growing CW superhero universe. (Or maybe the muse. Every guy who has a crush on her ends up becoming a superhero.)

See also Agent Coulson, a character who didn't exist in the comics, but who became an indispensable part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe because of Clark Gregg's charisma.

One of the Producers of Arrow mentioned today that Arrow is going to explore the Lazarus Pit. I think that probably answers how Caity Lotz will appear on this spin-off.

She is a perfect example of an actress driving a character's popularity. I do not think the original plan was for Sara to be resurrected or even to appear as much as she did last season. I think the real question is whether Sara will continue under the name of Canary. Or will she have a new identity to distinguish the two sisters.

^The folks at the CW don't care what Routh did in a past movie role any more than they care what the Atom did in the comics. Neither of those makes them money. What they care about is that these actors are getting good audience response here and now, and they want to capitalize on that.

And to Dick Whitman, I agree -- I'd take Caity Lotz over Katie Cassidy any day. I figure the execs liked her enough to ask Berlanti & co. to bring her back, and they didn't much care how.

The super-hero series that I really want to see is the X-Presidents in live action...with the actual ex-presidents playing the X-Presidents.

If they're casting new roles, I guess that means they're actually going ahead with the pilot. So how come it doesn't have a title yet?

Hawkgirl's an interesting addition, but I've never heard of the Kendra Saunders version. I'm only familiar with Shayera Hol, thanks to the Justice League animated series.

she is from the 2000 era JSA ongoing.

Kendra Saunders committed suicide and then her body was possessed by the soul of the Golden Age Hawkgirl, right?

Yeah, although the suicide happened before Kendra became Hawkgirl. Then, after she had been hawkgirl for awhile, she was killed by Black Lanterns along with Hawkman (who was still the GA version). When the white lantern resurrected a bunch of heroes soon after that, they brought back Hawkman along with Shiera Hall (the golden age HW) in her own body with all her memories, instead of resurrecting her as Kendra.

That's what Wikipedia says, but apparently CW Superhero Series to Be Named Later is just making her the latest reincarnation of Hawkgirl.

Well, the thing is there was some mystery about Kendra in the JSA ongoing. Or at least the whole "possessed by Shiera Hall after committing suicide" bit was revealed later, so if they're going with the same basic character arc for her this Kendra might be saving that for a reveal.

On the other hand the whole "growing wings out her back" and "ancient warrior persona manifesting" is completely new, so... never mind.

Arthur Darvil coming onboard is awesome!

All sounds great to me! Its clear now that this is really happening. I wonder if there will be any setup in the season finales of Arrow or Flash for this? Maybe just partly. I doubt we will not see the Atom for a half season. Probably will be tease on one or both shows when its closer to air at least.

With Rip Hunter I am hoping the villain is Vandal Savage like I earlier speculated.

Well a time traveler really opens up the DC universe. From Anthro to Kamandi, Chronos and Savage truly a series with no boundaries. Very excited about this show at this point.
