Sandra Piller just posted on Facebook, "I am so excited to announce the publication of my late husband Michael Piller's book Fade In: The Making of Star Trek Insurrection! It is being published as a textbook on screenwriting "from within the Star Trek Universe."

"We will be debuting it next week at #STLV and will be taking pre-orders!

"I'm also thrilled that the publishers are including my EP, Love Goes On, which I dedicated to Michael, with the book!"

I think I have a PDF of this from years ago when it was shared on here.

I enjoyed reading it a lot. I hope the printed version has something new going for it to incite purchase.

    Holy smokes.

That is some shitty typography on the cover. And why the 1701-D?

That's a shitty cover full stop to be honest and I guess he was just wearing a plain hat when the photo was taken.

Might just stick with my ebook copy. Could always get it printed myself one way or another for a lot less than $95.

I'm guessing the execs who ran the studio back then are no longer around to object to its publication. There are some incredible stories and anecdotes in that book about the creative climate surrounding the Trek franchise in the mid/late-1990s, and you get a fairly stark picture of how decisions got made.

Really fascinating, and even sheds light onto the circumstances surrounding Piller being pressured off of Voyager.

I'm thinking that's probably more of a temporary mockup until a "final" cover is revealed. At least, I hope it is.

Based on that price, they aren't kidding about the "published as a textbook" thing. I'm having university flashbacks.

Ouch. I'll probably have to pass at that price, unfortunately. :(

Wow, that price just killed any interest I had in reading it. It would have loved to get to hear about Insurrection first hand, but not at that price.

Jeez. Good luck selling more than three copies. Wow.
I'd like to support this, but $95 for a book that was already released for free?

Knowing Piller, I'd be willing to bet it had a team logo on it (Such as the LA Dodgers) that they have photoshopped out. That is one brutally amateurish cover, especially with nothing being blended together properly.

I was excited for about a minute there.
Get it down about fifteen bucks and I will buy it.

Insurrection is one if my favourite Trek movies. I'm surprised it went through so much trouble to be made.

Agreed that the $95 price tag is WAY too steep!

As for the 'cover picture' in the Facebook link, I notice that it doesn't mention Insurrection anywhere, so it could just be a place holder/mockup.
