Armada 2: Anyone still playing?

ReadyAndWilling

Fleet Captain
hey guys, i used to play this all the way back in 2002 and 2003 and was wondering if there are people still playing? i only just heard about all these mods people have been creating for different ships, maps and even different races to play.

when i played star trek: bridge commander, it was exceptionally difficult to actually make these mods work most of the time; some worked great though. could anyone tell me what race mods work easily? i really don't want to go through the headache of trying mods that don't work. i just want mods that work and all i need to have is the 1.1 patch.

this is what i'm looking at right now:

http://armada2.filefront.com/files/Armada_2/Mods;763

thanks guys, really appreciate any help.

Usually, I rearrange the download list by the number of times downloaded. The ones that appear top of the list are usually the most popular ones, and thus, should have a good chance of running just fine.

The mod you've chosen has been rated as having stability issues. I very rarely download betas just for that reason. If it was me, I'd give it a skip.

TBH, I've enjoy playing Armada II unmodded.

And I'd suggest running from a copy of the original disc, in case you didn't know, that Armada II disc is worth dinner + movie + thensome.

alright, thanks mate.

do many people play this online still?

i'd love to play with some mods.

when i played bridge commander, it had a huge mod called KM and everyone online played it.

was great fun.

If you like Armada 2, I recommend you try the FleetOps total conversion mod for it. It has a fairly large community of active online players as well!

why?

Armada 2, SFC3, and Elite Force 2 were from that era where Paramount and Activision had their major falling out and the Star Trek video game license was killed. Because of a lawsuit filed, Paramount and Activision pulled all copies of those games from store shelves nearly immediately after they were launched.

I have Armada 2, unfortunately the original disc is scratched beyond repair, but I have a copy, and still play it now and again. I didn't realise until I started posting on this board and browsed the gaming section that it was so rare.

Personally, I play it unmodded, and rarely play online, so I've no idea of the size of the online community, but it's going to be fairly small compared to a lot of other games. I can't speak for the FleetOps thing though.

It's one I never finished, might be fun to bust it out again. I did play through the first Armada, which was pretty fun.

Amazing how much those games are worth today!

I tried playing A2 recently and just couldn't get into it. I think Dawn of War and Company Heroes have pretty much rewritten the book on RTS games to the degree that I just can't stand base-building and resource gathering anymore. I really loved the original Armada but I don't think I can go back there.
