Arex = Kelvin Alien?

I really hope that J.J. Abrams gives us something new in the Monchezkean race and I hope that they don't resemble aliens that we have seen in the past.

With just a profile shot of the head and bit of the neck, I am reminded of the story about the blind men and the elephant when we speculate how this alien will appear in the final film. I do hope the Monchezkean doesn't turn out to be yet another humanoid alien race. Hopefully they will give them more than four limbs and a different number of fingers and toes, or at least make the porportions of the body so that it is definitely not an actor in a body suit.

Well, TOS finally started to recognise TAS by stealing some aspects for the CBS team at remastering the series.

Actually ST:TMP acknowledged TAS in 1979 via:

* the Klingon ships' torpedo tube location

* Vulcan's moon

* Enterprise's second bridge turbolift.

If the Monchezkean is supposed to be Arex's race, then why give him pointed ears, and why say he's from Monchezke instead of Edos or Triex? ;)

I agree, if they were going to model an Edoan or Triexian they would have called the race Edoan or Triexian. ;) From what I have read, screenwriters Orci and Kurzman are fans. We have also heard about canon droppings in the script.

Hopefully, the Monchezkean is an original race and J.J. and company will, hopefully, give us something original.

Keep in mind we don't know who was put in charge of the blurb info for the Intel promotional site.

For all we know it could be two guys from the ad department who had to make up some sh*t at the last minute.

*sigh* And yes, I do realize I'm grasping at straws at this point. :p

I would imagine some of that stuff would come from the movie people, the techy bits are one thing but they could end up looking really stupid if they give details about these guys and either the movie or an official publication says something else.

In the Kelvin thread some posters suggested that the alien security officer might be the same species as Arex from ST:TAS.

I found a photo of Arex from Kail's wonderful Star Trek Animated site...

...and combined it with the photo of Alnschloss K'Bentayr.

So, what do you think? Could he/she be a relative of our ol' pal Arex? :)

It doesn't seem likely that K'Bentayr and Arex were intended to be the same species, but your thread title (Arex = Kelvin Alien?) does remind me that there were a "Kelvin Alien #1" and "Kelvin Alien #9" on the cast list. Could K'Bentayr be one of these?

Mr Arex on USS Kelvin??

Is that Mr Arex??! Or one of his species??

On the Kelvin crew roster on Intel’s site, at the bottom.
He’s listed as Anschloss K’Beatayr, born on Monchezke.
(sorry, I’m rubbish at things like embedding pictures ;-)

Here’s wishful thinking: Mr Arex is short for his full name, like ‘Shran’ was supposedly short for something in Enterprise (thus this guy would be ‘Mr Ansch’ or ‘Mr Beat’ or something).
The internet says Arex is Edosian, and that his home planet is Edo. But just because he is Edosian, he doesn’t have to have been born there, does he?

Mr Arex (one of the all-time greatest creations of Star Trek), from the cartoon series has been *so* long overdue for a return.
When this film was announced, although unlikely, I was hoping to see him in full CGI glory.
I was even holding out hope to see him in one of Elvis Cawley’s Star Treks.

Is this guy the return of tripods to Trek? They’ve both got the pointy chins, weird head shapes and orange skin.

If he’s just humanoid with an iffy head I’ll be *very* disappointed.

Re: Mr Arex on USS Kelvin??

There's a thread already on this, still on the first page of this forum...

I *really* hope it's another Mr. Arex. I've been waiting for a CGI (or puppet or whatever) version of him for years...

And stop whinging about "canon"!
It ONLY exists to avoid paying royalties to the various novel/comic/game/whatever authors.

I really don't need it to be an Edoan like Arex. Why? Because it just doesn't make any frakking difference. Odds are we'll see all of 30 seconds or less of him, and besides, with what happens to the Kelvin courtesy of Nero, getting all worked up into a lather over him seems sort of pointless.

Still, I am glad we're seeing an actual alien-looking creature in a ship position rather than just another character with a ridge or bump or other odd protusion on his or her forehead. Man, did that get old fast.
