Arex = Kelvin Alien?

considering the New Frontier novels feature Arex as a 'Triexian' not an 'Edoan' and there's a short story explaining that the Edoans and Triexians are seperate species from widely seperated planets, proximity between Edos (or Triex) and whatsisface's world is irrelevant to similarity of appearance.

^Right!^

I'd love to see that K'Ben has three arms and legs, but if he is the same or similar species to good ol' Lt. Arex, then he's a reinterpretation. But I feel a lot more comfortable with that than I did with the Two Gorn Saga for the simple reason that it's hard to get a sense of Arex's skeletal structure from the cartoon. There'd have to be at least some reinterpretation involved.

Although, to be completely honest, I wasn't that upset about the changes to the Gorn, either.

Arex is seen walking in the TAS episode "The Terratin Incident". No mystery re his skeletal structure.

His three-legged stance probably inspired VOY's Species 8472.

Sorry, I misspoke. I meant the shape of his skull. I'm not certain a few lines on his head were sufficient to convey how his head is put together. Although I'd love to see a better picture of that toy!

I wish there were Andorians on the 1701. I loved seeing the Andorians regularly on ENT. And I want a Federation ship named Kumari.

^K'Bentayr doesn't appear to be makeup--he looks CGI, IMHO.

I thought that too at first.
But now I'm almost sure that it is a mask.

I think it's still a coin toss. My thoughts have bounced from cg to mask and back again. I'm remain confused at this point. I'm curious, why are you almost sure it is a mask?

The neck seems very normal (just covered with latex) as does the mouth (the lower lip actually).
And the way the light reflects on the head...

I could be very wrong though ;)

If Andorians are in Trek XI, then I demand they have ice powers. I'll boycott the movie otherwise.

Had ENT come back for a fifth season, Manny Coto said Shran(Jeffrey Combs)might very well have been a regular cast member...as there had been ideas to put Shran on Enterprise as an Andorian Imperial Guard exchange officer in return for the aid he and the Guard lent Archer in the final stages of the Xindi crisis.

WE HAVE AN ANSWER! From trekmovie.com:

TrekMovie: Regarding the alien security officer on the Kelvin, Alnschloss K’Bentayr, is that character in any way related to Arex from The Animated Series?

Roberto Orci: Not in our minds, but possibly in the designer’s. You would have to ask the designer.

^ I can't believe they didn't ask if K'Ben has a third arm or not! ;)

And also:

TrekMovie: Is the character make-up and puppetry, or CGI?

Roberto Orci: A little bit of both, mostly make-up and puppetry. That particular alien was actually was sitting on the set. JJ wanted to as much real stuff as possible, which is not typical for this type of movie in this day and age.

Awww, damn! Next thing you know that cop won't be a robot, either.
