Arex = Kelvin Alien?

In the Kelvin thread some posters suggested that the alien security officer might be the same species as Arex from ST:TAS.

I found a photo of Arex from Kail's wonderful Star Trek Animated site...

...and combined it with the photo of Alnschloss K'Bentayr.

So, what do you think? Could he/she be a relative of our ol' pal Arex? :)

Well, it's unlikely that a six-limbed alien is related to a four-limbed alien. Mind you, we haven't yet seen Alnschloss K'Bentayr, the new Monchezkean, below the neck yet. Arex also has no visible ears.

But I think he looks just as reminiscent of two, no four, different ST IV aliens:

There are massive differences in bone structure between the two aliens. Most notably, the nose/jaw region in Arex juts forward much more than that on K'Ben. Arex also has a much narrower neck than what we've seen so far on K'Ben.

On the other hand, I'm really hopeful that this is an Edoan from TAS. If it is the same species as Arex, they've made considerable changes to his look. I note that this photo conspicuously avoids showing any shoulder whereas the other Kelvin crew photos show a little bit of that area. Is that the fevered excitement of a TAS fan or are they deliberately hiding three shoulders from us?

I found a picture online of Arex's face in essentially the same position.

Not close enough.

It is funny the new guy is pink/orange, tho'.

Makes you wonder...

Maybe this is as close as they could get with limitations in makeup and such?

It could be CGI, could be a puppet/man with puppet head, I dont think we will be able to tell for sure untill there are better photos, video or someone official comments.

Of course, if they do make this guy the same species as Arex, then that means they are acknowledging TAS, and therefore would be required to acknowledge the existence of Robert April.

It would be neat if this WERE Arex or at least from his species. That would mean at least some aspects of TAS were now being considered canonical if a generation or more late and limited to just a few items.

Or not. They're not "required" to do anything.

Would be cool if it was kin to Arex, though I always thought it would be hard to do live action, even CGI: the third arm hanging out of his chest doesn't look right in a practical way.

Which is probably just as good a reason as any for it NOT to be the same species as Arex.

Although, didn't we see a feline-like humanoid (not unlike M'Ress from TAS) in TVH?

Oh, what a slippery slope we're going down. April will be canon yet! :)

Please, dont get him started. :scream:

Well, TOS finally started to recognise TAS by stealing some aspects for the CBS team at remastering the series.

They used a Vulcan city, a ship design for the Antares that was from an episode of TAS.

Would be cool if J.J. respects it as official, if hes any fan, hell do what he wants, doesnt need big-wigs in the office to tell him any differently.

Plus even if this character is supposed to be the same species it doesnt mean TAS is canon, just one species from it.
