Are You Handy? 2

That looks absolutely brilliant, SPOCKED. I'm jealous of your house, and I'm still in college--I shouldn't want a house yet! Also, that coffee table is quite fab. Very shiny.

Thank you, Alaedhros. I'll have clearer pics of the work in progress as time goes on. We still need to get molding in the living room and repaint the windows after all the pellet stove work is finished, and then basically it's finished. It's pretty cozy, though. Some rl problems got in the way of our ability to begin grouting last night which is upsetting because I really want to get this done. The reality to accomplishing all this, of course, is patience... home wasn't built in a day ;)

It looks like you've done an extraordinary amount of work... and it all looks so seamless. Amazing DIY. Congratulations. So when's your housewarming party? :D

Thanks, May and An Officer! Even though we've had the house for about nine months, we have not had a housewarming party yet. We kept saying we'd have one when the house got finished, and then the thing with the kids came up and we're still working on the house...I'm thinking at this point we just won't have one. :(

I thought RJD and I were the Misc mods with the bad puns. :shifty:
We're rubbing off on him. :D I'm sure Elmo is pleased. :rommie:

This Thread is it. It's the longest Housewarming Party in history. :)

Hey we finally got the platform grouted tonight
First the difficult part - slapping that messy grout all over...

Then the clean, finished product...

Of course, a sweet mantle and some molding will finish the job. But that will have to wait awhile. And we won't put the stove on it until we've installed the intake and exhaust piping. That sucks because I really want to see that puppy up there ;)

Rubbing off on him is my job! Shoo, shoo!

That's true!!

Hi Dad! :D I didn't even see your post the first time, sorry! :alienblush::techman:

Yeah, we decided to put it in a different spot because we didn't want to deal with the pipe through the roof...also, there was no affordable pellet stove on the market that was cheap enough to fit in that alcove and pass code! :P

Hey, you should post more ;)

Looks like you decided to put the stove in a different spot. Looks real good. What did you decide about the stove pipe?

We still have a little wiggle room for the couch so when the stove is in place, it won't be so close :)

We are exhausted. Totally exhausted after spending the whole day putting in the floor. To our great good fortune, the slats played out perfectly so there were no need for any lengthwise cuts - even around the platform it worked out beautifully. We had some lucky breaks for novices. The other really good news is how wonderfully things turned out around the grate hole, and to think we're never going to have to gaze upon that old hole ever again :D

So this is where it all began - with rolling out the first stretch of underpad

Remember that horrible hole in the floor???...

Now it's time to kick back and watch LOTR on the big ol HD lol

We did an off the top of our head calculation on how much flooring we'd need a few weeks ago when we saw this stuff on sale -- we bought 8 boxes and ended up using 7 and a half. The two rolls of padding were just enough also. Putting in this floor was about the most successful effort we've had to date. It went just about flawlessly :)
