Are you feeling the scope of the war?

I know exactly what Kirk did in "Where No Man...", which is the second episode after "The Cage".

Not broadcast.

I do think the show is building up to a number of things, though, with my suspicion being the season will end with Lorca planning some sort of genocidal or evil plan which Burnham stops and that propels her to the captaincy as she shows the Discovery should be about science and PEACE not war.

It's basically the "Knightfall" and "Reign of Superman" plot where you introduce what Batman and Superman AREN'T so you can show you what they ARE.

It is too soon to say.. but I think their priority is to establish/develop Burnham's character.
The war is in the background but still working as a force in the narrative. After all , war can have impact even away from the front line.

Also I'm pretty sure we saw him eating what looked like Klingon food in his ready room, maybe it's like the manchurian candidate. Probably not, but it's fun to speculate :D
It was a Japanese octopus salad. Goes right along with the fortune cookies (which are originally of Japanese-American origin).

I think they've done a poor job in laying out the scope of the war.

BUT, then again that may not have been their point. Though when I found out Powder and his band of hungry hungry Klingons had been in that stupid ship graveyard for six months I thought to myself WTF! SIX MONTHS?!?!?!?!

No, but it's one of the few things I don't have a problem with. I was never interested in Trek wars. However, it is definitely a problem that because we're not getting the captain's perspective, we, essentially, don't have the full insight into what is going on. I expected this to be a problem when they announced that the main character is not going to be the captain. They've, basically, made every possible mistake in the making of this show in their pursuit of originality.

So they'll have her try to nerve pinch Lorca, run to the bridge, commit mutiny, try to fire on the Klingons, and Lorca will step on the bridge, phaser drawn?

(nah, won't work...)

Which is a reason why they should have waited until a later season to do a war story. They got to not only establish the characters, the universe the villians and they got to do it one season with only 15 episodes to work with. That's a ton of stuff to do especially when your also put so much focus on a single character. I think the characters right now are pretty established so I hope we see more war stuff in the next few episodes create more peril and which case you then take it up another notch which will most likely have to do with the spore drive and this alternate universe stuff. I kind of like the idea that when they return to this universe they find that things have even gotten worst and thus putting more pressure on them to find away to win the war.

Huh? The Discovery (and the Glenn) WOULDN'T EXIST but for the war. Stemets states that he and his partner peacefully on the Spore Drive tech for 12 years; but it were immediately co-opted by Star Fleet (who built these two ships specifically to test and develop the tech BECAUSE of the war.)

That's like saying "They shouldn't have had the first season of Deep Space Nine on a Space Station...":wtf:

Ya know I started another DS9 run and thought to myself that I wouldn't mind seeing half a season of Sisko having to serve on the enterprise with Picard,

the.... drama woulda been good.

I wouldn't seriously suggest forgoing DS9 starting on the station, but I woulda loved to see that.
