I love it!
Especially as it triggers so many people!

In a galaxy full of hostile aliens you need to break a few heads to maintain utopia!

This seems like a poor showing for Section 31 on a forum that typically scores episodes very high.

Were the Andorian and Tellarite admirals the same ones we saw before (Shukar and Gorch)? They were played by the same actors...
I think the Andorian was Shukar, though the Tellarite might have been a different character, since this one didn't have facial hair. Also, since the same actor also played the Tellarite bounty hunter in the Harry Mudd Short Trek, there's precedent for having the same actor be multiple Tellarites, at least.

Y'all know how much I adore section 31, but I was prepared to see why it was they were part of this story. So far, that isn't obvious. I haven't seen anything actually plot relevant that couldn't have been done by an ordinary Starfleet vessel or installation. Why we need the leather clad space KGB in this story remains completely unclear.

Well, Control is part of Section 31, and that's very relevant to the plot. That's enough for me, but I'm biased.
I suppose my point is that there's no need for it to be. The story works just as well if Control is a Starfleet data analytics computer on a protected base somewhere. Why does s31 have to be anything to do with it? There's nothing untoward about doing predictive analytics for decision making. It's commonly used today.

That's certainly correct. I suppose I just don't mind, but it may have worked better if they had made that choice.

Why does everything to do with S31 need to be untoward? It likely they did there fair share of legitimate and sometimes boring stuff as well.

Remember there primary purpose is to protect the federation, not go out their way causing havoc and mayhem. It likely they only conduct extreme action when they feel necessary, rather than as standard procedure due to do the fact that extreme and amoral actions are hard to cover up and generally cause more damage in the long run.
There is a difference between being in a group a group where the ends justify s the means and being in a group that uses brutality for the sake of brutality.

I mean, I remember when it was just a bad fanfic/YA novel level of inclusion to stories. Then actual Trek writers endorsed it after running out of ideas.

Section 31 has been the Star Trek universe's boogeymen since being introduced. Everything shady that happens, their involved with. Hell, it's canon they're responsible for the smooth-headed Klingons of TOS, and heavily implied (albeit retconned after the fact) that they were involved with Admiral Pressman and the whole Pegasus fiasco. Then you bring the novels into the equation which has them behind the events of The Enterprise Incident, TUC (with Admiral Cartwright a member) and Insurrection. The novel version of Control is actually a critical component of computer software and without it, the Federation would literally cease to operate. And that's not hyperbole, but an actual plot point.

i think the show traded one bad idea (the klingon war) for another (section 31 shenanigans), but has handled its bad idea much better this season than last season. just wish they'd get some better ideas, but it's still early.

There's a universe full of wonders out there. New life, new civilizations.

This show doesn't do a whole lot of discovering. This year half the plot is very inside baseball, the inner workings of starfleet and S31. I mean, that's ok.

There's been more joy and "boldly going" forth than last year, so that's good. Whatever.

So you're saying it's Star Trek?

I like the show from the go-go 60s Space Age. Now we're in nihilistic managed decline with art and music to match. So it goes.

As i recall 60s TV was hip deep in spy shows, Secret Agent, The Avengers, I Spy, The Man From Uncle, Mission Impossible, Get Smart ect., and Star Trek nearly had a spinoff show in Gary 7. Not sure how having a Spy Trek show is counter to themes the era.

This is the golden age of television, especially scifi television. There are 30+ scifi shows with new episodes any given season and most are as good or better than what we've ever got in any given 5 year stretch in the past, IMO. As for music, well, that generally gets carved into most people's mental vinyl between the ages of 8-18. Every generation thinks the next generations music sucks.
