But what about those who supposedly believe in the afterlife? As another poster pointed out, many of these folks claim to believe that heaven is so wonderful that they can hardly wait to get there. But even they fight tooth and nail to stay HERE. So I have to wonder if they REALLY believe in the afterlife, or only hope for an afterlife.
I am not afraid of dying, but I am afraid of leaving my children before they are ready.
As I pointed out earlier, this is exactly why every culture has invented an afterlife. Fear of death is the most fundamental instinct we have. No person-- or any other animal, for that matter-- could function properly without it. Believing that death is just a change of address is just one way people have of dealing with it.But what about those who supposedly believe in the afterlife? Yes, RJ - I read your earlier post on the subject and agreed with it also. I used another poster's post in my own, but there were several I agreed with fully - yours being one.
Since one or two of the posters in here feel the need to come after me, any time I post anything longer than a couple of paragraphs, I have elected to cut back on fully responding - even to the most complex of questions - in order to accommodate those unable to concentrate long enough to read my posts...but who, incredibly, seem equally unable to simply ignore them.![]()

This. I also tried it (Jan 19, 2008 of total respiratory failure due to advance pneumonia) and didn't like it at all. Don't intend to do it again, if at all possible.Tried it once. Didn't agree with me at all...
