^what is this 'Star Trek' you are talking about?
No.
I don't even like Star Trek.
I don't know what I'm doing here.

No, I prefer Dr.Who
Some years ago I've read somewhere on the internet, which is known to be a font of absolute, irrefutable truth, that "Trekkies" and "Trekkers" were fans of TOS and TNG, respectively. But after I was able to think about it some more, I feel Trekkie rolls much more nicely from my tongue than Trekker, so I'll call myself a Trekkie with pride. If I have to be even more specific, I'm a Niner, but most people in Hungary would just scratch their heads at that.
U serious?
I first heard the term Trekker in high school to mean “I like Star Trek but without all the antisocial nerdy connotations of liking Star Trek”.
That is his serious face.
Trekkie sounds fun and harmless. Trekker sounds too serious and weird, IMHO.
Reminds me of some Star Trek fan clubs I used to know. Can't speak for clubs today (as I was recently reminded, the last fan club I belonged to folded in 2002!), but I knew this one club that would only admit you if you got a recommendation from a current member. Seems they were trying to screen out the weird ones. My reaction was like, "I hate to tell you folks, but the people looking at us from the outside? They think we're all weird!"My problem with the word "Trekker" is that, in practice, it's usually used by one group of fans to put down another group of fans, or at least to distance themselves from, you know, those OTHER fans.
"Oh, we're not one of those embarrassing Trekkies. We're Trekkers instead."
Too often it comes off as putting on airs.
I first heard the term "Trekker" in a Newsweek cover story about Star Trek IV, nine months before TNG even premiered. Some years ago I've read somewhere on the internet, which is known to be a font of absolute, irrefutable truth, that "Trekkies" and "Trekkers" were fans of TOS and TNG, respectively.
To me, a Trekkie is someone who wears Star Fleet uniforms and Spock ears. I have none of that. I just watch the show and read the books. I don't even go to Trek conventions, although I did attend the ORIGINS gamer's convention. Some years ago I've read somewhere on the internet, which is known to be a font of absolute, irrefutable truth, that "Trekkies" and "Trekkers" were fans of TOS and TNG, respectively.
