Are they still in the Local Group?

Well it would be reasonable to assume the Ancients would want to survey all the galaxies in the local group before heading out further into the cosmos. But then, we don't know how fast Destiny is moving through galaxies (I believe the creators have said they want to do one galaxy per season.)

oh my. a galaxy like ours contains a trillion or so planets. if they survey really thoroughly, and take their time, say one second per planet, one season must be about 32,000 of our years long.
i just started to discover stargate, working trough season 2 of sg1. like it.

Well, the seeder ships would likely only travel to systems that looked habitable or useful from long-range observations. And then Destiny only seems to stop at planets that are useful to the current needs of the ship.

More than likely it they would only stop at M-Class planets roughly a certain distance off the linear course they're taking through each galaxy keeping the number down to several dozen Gates at most in each.
