Are there fans of Star Trek V?

Seeing it again, I found it entertaining and touching in spots, though much of it remains terrible. Is that M'Ress on acid, jumping on Kirk in the bar?

Yes, it is. And David Warner is also Gorkon before he got his cranial ridge transplant.

Yes. It is a very under-appreciated film. Some of the best character moments are in that film.

Ignoring the bad special effects, the ridiculous plot elements and some pretty poor character moments for the supporting characters, the Kirk/Spock/McCoy trio has never been stronger than it was in Final Frontier. From that point of view, I am a fan. Having said that, in nearly every other regard, its a trainwreck.

I saw this in 1989 when it came out. Once was enough. The sheer ludicrousness of the scene in the huge, never-before-seen maintenance shaft - WHY would ship's gravity even be active there, allowing someone to potentially fall many dozens of decks (far more decks than the ship ever contained)? WHY would such a scene even exist, other than to mirror the cliff-fall-rescue scene from the beginning? It's all summed up for me in the great headline of the film's review in City Pages (Minneapolis), which I wish I'd written: "Dammit, Jim".

Same reason it happened in Nemesis, I guess.

I like Star Trek V. It's deeply flawed, but there are much worse movies in the Trek franchise.

DeForest Kelley is so good in it. He must have known it was not going to turn out well, but he still gave a superb performance. I respect that a lot.

Oh, I never understood everyone's hatred of this film. It wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible either, and I think that its heart was in the right place.

I'd gladly rewatch Star Trek V before Nemesis, Insurrection, or Generations. Star Trek III dragged at times too.

It had enough memorable lines to keep me happy...

"Then how come you don't know row row row your boat?"

"A marshmellen!" (What was up with McCoy's pronunciation there???)

Yeah, some awesome Kirk, Spock, Bones moments, the campfire, the cliff, the jail, everything, but mostly a horrible movie otherwise...

For its faults (and it certainly has them), there are some good elements to the story. Many of them just weren't fleshed out very well.

I like the scene with Sulu flying the shuttlecraft on manual into the Shuttle Bay. It's kind of silly but fun too.

"Actually, this is my first attempt."

I loved the cluelessness of that scene. The film has a lot of flaws, but I still love it for the little moments like that.
