Yes, it’s impossible that people feel differently about the show than you. We’re all extensions of your ego, which is now denser than a neutron star.

I'm just asking about the rumor. Why be so defensive? My views on solipsism are besides the point

The only people I know of who speak of cancellation are those who are adamantly against it. These people have little or no relevance as their research methodology is questionable and they run on speculation.

The same thing is happening with Star Wars. There’s a toxic and entitled element of the fandom who hate the current films (for various reasons) so much they want them to fail to either validate themselves and gloat about how they were right from the beginning to hate it. It’s like wanting your team to lose because you don’t like the pitcher or the uniforms. It’s pure hate poisoning someone.

I’m not the one who seems defensive.
I'll be okay if the show continues beyond season 2. I won't lose any sleep if it doesn't either though.

okay but I'm speaking of other people who are speaking of cancellation. I had to read that first sentence a few times because I was reading it as "it = the show being cancelled" rather than "it = star trek discovery" I usually edit my "it"'s and "that"'s as much as possible to avoid confusion.

Maybe that's what's going on here. Anyone who likes star trek discovery will say the rumors are false. I forgot that word for something which means that something is only true if people believe it is true. Like the value of the dollar has value because people believe the dollar has value but if everyone stopped believing the dollar had value then it wouldn't have value anymore. If anyone can think of that word let me know.

It's possible they made the decision to cancel the series already regardless of whether people like it or not though. Maybe they can't announce it because it would hurt their profit margins, that make sense?

A bunch of Alex Jones-eque weirdos post tinhat nonsense, and you're treating it like a rumor published in trade publications. Wow.

They're saying stuff like "Mount said Sonequa 'enjoyed a special relationship.' HE USED THE PAST TENSE. DISCOVERY IS CANCELLED!" It's not rational.

So, the definitive answer is ... NO.

And all the rest of the . . . . nonsense, are the ramblings of disenchanted fans who would not only look a gift-horse in the mouth, but would probably go deeply into the other end as well, looking for more chit to fling.

It is a risky venture. Those episodes cost a lot to make. We saw how Kelvin Star Trek 4 turned out. Then they put the season 2 opener out on youtube. :shifty: who knows

And to think: next year we'll be able to look forward to threads asking about if Season 3 will be the last. Discovery will probably run 5-7 seasons but it will definitely run for more than two.

The only reason there's not a Star Trek 4 is because Paramount wanted to make it for a lower budget than the first three Abrams films, with Chris Pine taking a pay cut and he didn't want to do that. Beyond isn't a bad place for the Abrams Films to end because that movie just under-performed. It didn't completely bomb like Nemesis when the TNG movies ended.

The comparisons between Kelvin Trek and Disco Trek are apples and oranges. Paramount can always put out another summer blockbuster that doesn't have to be Star Trek, whereas CBS All Access is using Star Trek as its tent-pole. CBS All Access can't and won't drop Discovery the same way Paramount can drop Star Trek 4.

Why should anyone who hates DSC care if it's cancelled? They'll have the Picard Series. It's not a "one or the other" deal. Both will exist. Unless they're against all new Star Trek. And that might be the case.

So, basically, you had your way for 25 seasons across 18 years (1987-2005), but don't like two seasons of having it not be your way and are clinging to anything you think suggests that it will end soon.
He could have said "we're confident we'll get the pickup". I wouldn't have said "hopefully". Maybe it's nothing
