How many episodes had been aired before They announced that Season 2 was a go last year?

I don't think we're there yet.

How about we wait for that same number this year, before we go all apeshit and start assisting in the spreading of stupidass rumors.
<SMH>

At this point, I hope that CBS renews it for 3 more seasons at once just to shut these people up for a few years.

It was already cancelled two and a half years ago. Every episode we believe we have seen to date has been a product of a shared hallucination. Just like TFF and the Voyager episode "Threshold".

Negativity seems to permeate the internet. I play an online spaceship sim game called Elite: Dangerous (I don't know how many people here are aware of it), and also participate in the forum for the game. Every week or so, for the past three years that I've been playing, a thread comes along about how the game is dead, nobody is playing any more, often with dubious steam charts. No matter what the game's regulars, or developers ever say, the doomsayers are persistent. Some are likely trolls, others those who want the devs to change features in favour of their preferred gamestyle. The important thing is, they are all, generally, taking crap. Anybody defending something they disagree with is a Frontier Developments plant or an apologist, or deluded.

I see some very similar attitudes crop up about anything that has a rich history with an established fanbase: Star Trek, Star Wars, Elite (of which ED is the fourth Elite game).

I've seen a bunch of cancellation rumors flying around about this show that spark from a tweet from Anson Mount https://twitter.com/ansonmount/status/1089410129080967170 .

The rumor is analyzed here:

I think it makes sense that it would be cancelled because of the section 31 series and Picard series. I find it highly unlikely that they would have 3 running star trek series at once.
Wild speculation from attention-seeking Youtubers does not even merit the status of "rumor."

If it doesn't go 7 season and 178 episodes, then it would be a completely failure and proof that all Trek fans everywhere hated it.
 ;)

Well, in that case the only successful Trek series was TNG.
  • TOS - 3 seasons, 79 episodes (FAIL!)
  • TAS - 2 seasons, 22 episodes (FAIL!)
  • TNG - 7 seasons, 178 episodes
  • DS9 - 7 seasons, 176 episodes (FAIL!)
  • VOY - 7 seasons, 172 episodes (FAIL!)
  • ENT - 4 seasons, 98 episodes (FAIL!)
Just sayin'. ;)

It won't matter though. People will still buy into the conspiracy theory and suggest one move that goes against TEH CANNON!!!!!!1one!!!!111!!! will sink Discovery.

Then there will be posts like
"clearly by renewing this series they are sending a false flag that the show is doing well in order to attract teh Investors! and I know because i am a hollywood exec or something"

Based on what? I don't know how many times I have to post this: https://www.tvtime.com/en/show/328711

That site has over 187k people tracking Discovery and it's rated 9.02/10 (an average rating of all of the episode ratings). Show me a site that has more people than that giving Discovery a low average rating.

I never went there until today. They're selecting from a pool of people that are still watching and paying for the show after over a season and they have a funky rating system where it uses emoticons instead of numbers. What about the people that gave up on the show already?

Other rating systems with a large number of votes like imbd give it "7.4/10 - ‎59,042 votes". The youtube posting of the season 2 opener (best episode of season 2 so far in my opinion) gives 5k thumbs up and 3.3k thumbs down, that's 56% thumbs up.

And it will all be litigated in a secret underground court in Los Angeles where everything is under seal. Third on the docket! I heard all about this court when Star Trek Beyond started production. Sounds fascinating.

And TOTALLY legit!

:brickwall:

Except, even that was a FAIL because the remaster didn't sell enough copies of the Blu-ray set :klingon:

Wasn't there co-ordinated down vote on that youtube vid by the Doomcock stable to try and make it look like everyone hated DSC?

So, I hold this kind of talk in the same way I do the "paid shill" crap. If we're going to post things like this, we have to back it up.

(I've been guilty of suggesting this stuff in the past. I realize its not helpful.)

Well how can they have an opinion on a show they're not watching?
I didn't see anyone else making a thread about it. I figured someone had to address the elephant in the room. Might as well be me.
The phrase 'elephant in the room' does not mean 'something made up that noone is aware of'.
